Mosquito Day 12: Cubs edge Cardinals 10-9 to win Mosquito Championship in a nailbiter!

CUBBIES CLAW BACK FROM A SIX RUN DEFICIT AND HANG ON FOR VICTORY AGAINST STUBBORN CARDS IN A THRILLER OF A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

2010 TP Mosquito Division Champions

Joyous Cubs raise the Mosquito Championship Trophy.

The Cubs clawed themselves back from a six-run deficit and hung on for a 10-9 victory over the stubborn Cardinals to win a thrilling TP Mosquito Division Championship game today at Diamond # 2.

The Cardinals pitchers and defense stymied the Cubs batters for two innings as the Cards offense made the most of their opportunities in building an 8-2 lead after two and a half innings of play.

However, the Cubs hibernating offense awoke in the third and fourth innings with ferocity to score eight unanswered runs and take a 10-8 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the pesky Cardinals refused to quit as they scored a run to make it a one-run game. With one out and the tying run on third base, it took a gutsy pitching perfomance from Noah (15) of the Cubs to finally retire the last two Cards on groundouts to win the championship.

Congratulations to Head Coach Ted Sharp and Assistant Coach Irene Dzerowicz for the time and energy they spent this season in guiding the Cubs to the TP Mosquito Championship.

With another off day before the final game of the TP Tournament and the house league baseball season itself, we thought we would take this opportunity to fill the void with some wonderful pictures from the tourney taken by Winston Fleming-Smikle.

Based upon feedback from parents, players and coaches alike, one of the things that everyone has loved about the TP Baseball Website this season has been the photography that has been posted to accentuate the writing in the postings. Even in this age of video on demand and social networking, the adage continues to ring true that a great picture can tell a thousand stories and marvel even the most hardened individual.

Please click here to view a collage of Winston's great photography from the 2010 TP Tournament.

The TP Baseball Committee thanks Winston for his generous contribution to our Photo Gallery.

If any other parents or players have any pictures from the TP Baseball Season that you wish to contribute, please email them to tpbaseball@gmail.com care of Paul for consideration.

DAY TEN UPDATE: Rain Postpones Today’s Mosquito Championship Game

TP BASEBALL COMMITTEE RESCHEDULES MOSQUITO CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL TO SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 AT 9:00 A.M. ON DIAMOND # 2

UPDATED AT  3:45 P.M.

Rainstorms have caused the postponement of tonight's Mosquito Championship Game between the Cardinals and Cubs. The steady precipitation throughout the day has made the baseball diamonds at Christie Pits unplayable.

The TP Baseball Committee has been forced to cancel the original proposed date for the rescheduled Mosquito final (Friday, September 17) due to concerns that some coaches from the Cardinals and Cubs would not be available for the game tomorrow evening.

The TP Committee has now confirmed the rescheduling of the TP Mosquito Championship Game to Saturday, September 18 at 9 a.m. on Diamond # 2.

In case of  inclement weather, Parents and Players are strongly encouraged to check back on this website or our TP Weather Hotline at (416) 392-1914 [Press '4'] for updates on the status of their scheduled game.

Peewee Day 9: Jays Win Peewee Championship Game in Extra Innings!

JAYS TOP THE RED SOX 12-8 IN A MARVELLOUS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

2010 TP Peewee Division Champions.

Jubilant Jays raise the Peewee Championship Trophy.

WHAT A GAME!

It took an extra inning before the Jays scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Red Sox 12-8 to win the TP Peewee Championship at Diamond # 2 tonight.

In a marvellous and well played game by both teams, the Jays and Red Sox battled each other tooth and nail for seven gripping innings. Runs were at a premium as both teams were tied 3-3 after three innings.

Eventually, the Jays offense chipped away at the Beantowners and built an 8-5 lead after five and a half innings of play. However, the never say die Red Sox rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 8-8 to force an extra inning.

In the top of the seventh, the potent Jays offense made the most of their opportunities as they sent eight batters to the plate to score four runs to take a 12-8 lead. It was a lead the Jays would not surrender as Kane (1) closed the door on any Red Sox comeback.

Congratulations to Jays Head Coach Jerry Langton and his assistants (Fly D'Abreau; Greg Brown and Peter Dorton) for volunteering their time and energy in guiding the team to a much deserved Peewee Championship victory.
