BANTAM MONDAYS: Lizzies Defeat A’s 9-7

LIZZIES BUILD A SEVEN RUN LEAD AND HANG ON FOR FIRST HOUSE LEAGUE VICTORY OF THE SEASON

Ryan (12) of the Lizzies pitched a solid two innings against the A's in picking up the victory.

BANTAM LIZZIES WIN! (Seriously!)

The drought is over as the Lizzies defeated the A’s 9-7 in four innings of play at Dominico Field at Christie Pits to earn their first victory of the 2011 Bantam Division House League Baseball Season.

Avery (15) of the A's pitched two stellar innings against the Lizzies.

The Lizzies used a combination of strong pitching and opportunistic offense to earn the victory.

A potent A’s batting lineup was neutralized in the first two innings by a strong pitching effort from Ryan (12) of the Lizzies (2 IP; 2 ER; 1 H; 1 W; 3 K’s) as he limited the Athletics to only two runs while striking out three in picking up the victory.

Ryan’s solid effort allowed the Lizzies to make the most of their offensive opportunities in building a seven run lead through 2½ innings.

Even though they trailed 9-2, the A’s refused to raise the white flag of surrender and rallied for four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to three runs.

Avery (15) pitched a scoreless top of the fourth against the Lizzies to allow his team the opportunity to comeback in their bottom half of the inning. Avery also pitched two solid innings for the A’s (2 IP; 1 ER; 1 H; 2 W; 2 K’s) as he only allowed one run while striking out two.

However, any A’s rally was extinguished when Tosh (6) of the Lizzies closed it out in the bottom of the fourth. Tosh (1 IP; 1 ER; 0 H; 2 W; 2 K’s) earned the save as he allowed only one run while striking out two.
