Underneath beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures, Bloordale defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Select Team 18-8 in four innings of EBA Select Loop play at Christie Pits Diamond 3 tonight.

Maxwell (4) pitched a workmanlike second inning.

After allowing Bloordale to score five runs in the top of the first inning, Toronto Playgrounds answered back with seven runs in their bottom half of the inning to take a 7-5 lead.

The Mosquito Selects offense was sparked by a pair of RBI singles by Jeremy (11) and Angus (12). This was followed by a combination of clutch 2 RBI singles delivered by Max (7) and Sasha (13).

Bloordale scored three runs in the top of the second to retake the lead 8-7. Keying their offensive outburst was an inside the park home run to deep left centre field.

However, a strong Bloordale bullpen neutralized a potent TP offense the rest of the game. After the offensive fireworks in the first, the Mosquito Selects were stymied by a pair of Bloordale pitchers who struck out four, allowed only one run, three hits and only one walk  in the final three innings.

Bloordale scored two more in the third inning to increase their lead to 10-8. In the top of the fourth, aided by some TP defensive lapses, Bloordale went for the jugular and scored eight runs.

Trailing 18-7, the Mosquito Selects scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth. Sasha (13) delivered a RBI triple that brought home Brian (25).

The Mosquito Selects (0-1-1) play their next game at Rotary Park against Royal York on Sunday, May 27 (6 p.m.).

EXTRA INNINGS: Kudos to Sasha (13) for delivering 3 RBI’s with a 2 for 2 performance at the plate (2 AB; 2 H; 1 R; 1 T; 3 RBI) and a stellar catching effort behind the plate in the first two innings; Another pair of kudos to Maxwell (4) for a strong pitching effort in the second inning by allowing only three runs and Angus (12) in the third inning for his effort to limit the Bloordale offense to two runs ; Mosquito Select Catcher Max (7) was removed from the game in the fourth with a lower body injury.
