Beneath warm and humid summer skies at Carmen Bush Field tonight, the Toronto Playgrounds Bantam Select team defeated Weston 8-3 in five innings to win their first game at the Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) playoff tournament.

The Bantam Selects put the metal to the pedal in the top of the first inning and scored seven runs to jump out to an early lead from which they never looked back.

Here are the highlights:

  • Cooper (8) delivered a clutch 2 RBI hit with two outs in the first inning.
  • Alex (19) was the TP star. Alex pitched four terrific innings, facing only eleven batters through three innings and allowing only 2 runs. Alex capped it off with a terrific catch to make the third out in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Wyatt (14) pitched a 1/3 of an inning in the fifth,
  • Micah (10) was on the mound when the game was called because it had reached its two hour time limit.
  • Alex was helped out by some solid defence. David Mederio (18) made a great catch in centre field to end the second inning.

The Bantam Selects (1-1) play their next game on Saturday, August 25 against Rexdale at Carmen Bush Field. TP is in the “double elimination” phase of the tournament, where the team must win or go home.
