Playing under the lights at Christie Pits Diamond 2 on the final day of Spring, the Cardinals defeated the Giants 15-4 in  four innings of Mosquito Division action,

Firing on all cylinders, the Red Birds used a combination of solid pitching and an opportune offense to prevail over the Mighty Giants.

In a postgame media scrum, Cardinals Head Coach Derek Ryan was effusive in his praise of his team’s performance, “All in all, a great team effort by the Cardinals.” 

Here are the highlights:

  • The Cardinals victory was predicated on stellar pitching performances from Jonathan (4) and Charles (8), who both pitched shut out innings against the Giants.
  • Cardinals closer Zenon (10) sealed the deal in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Four Cardinals pitchers combined to no hit the Mighty Giants offensive machine over the course of four innings.
  • Francis (13) powered the Cardinals offense with a single and his first triple of the season.
  • Jonathan of the Cardinals also helped his team shut down the Giants in the bottom of the fourth with a spectacular Gold Glove shoestring catch in the outfield. Jonathan also had the baseball wherewithal to make a quick throw to first base to nab a wayfaring Giants base runner to execute a beautiful double play to end the game
  • Alex (6) of the Cards had a double and Charles (8) and Solomon (11) each had singles for the Red Birds.
  • Giants pitchers Laine (14), Lachlan (7), Alex and Emmett all pitched great over the course of four innings against the Cardinals.
  • Giants catchers Lachlan, Cooper and Piper combined to put in a solid effort behind the dish.
  • Giants catcher Piper made a great throw to third baseman Cameron at third to nail a Cardinals runner attempting a steal.
  • With one out and one runner on base in the bottom of the fourth inning, Harris (15) hit a line drive to right field to preserve a late Giants rally.
  • Cards shortstop Emmett made a nice grab on a grounder and made a quick relay throw to second baseman Emma at second, who narrowly missed recording the out  on a speedy Cardinal base runner.
