THE DARLIN’ CUBBIES FEND OFF A TENACIOUS RALLY BY THE GO GO LIZZIES IN THE FINAL INNING TO HANG ON FOR THE VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS

Playing under the lights on a humid evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2, the Cubs edged the Lizzies 8-7 in a 2 ½ inning Mosquito Division nail biter.

Trailing 8-1, the Go Go Lizzies staged a dramatic six run comeback in the top of the third to trim the deficit to one.

However, Cubs closer Alden struck out three during the inning to quell the Lizzies uprising and seal the deal on the Cubbies victory.

Here are the highlights:

  • Cubs starter Daniel allowed only one run in the top of the first while striking out three Lizzies.
  • The Cubs scored four in the bottom half of the first to take a 4-1 lead.
  • Cubs reliever Julia pitched a scoreless top of the second while striking out three Lizzies.
  • The Cubbies offense punched across four runs in the bottom of the second to widen their lead to 8-1.
  • The Lizzies rally for six runs in the top of the third to trail 8-7.
  • Cubs closer Alden extinguishes the Go Go Lizzies comeback with a three K effort.
