On an extremely humid evening under the lights at Christie Pits Diamond 2, the Lizzies edged the Big Apples (a hybrid of Giants and Mets players) 13-12 in a scorching three inning Mosquito Division barnburner.

The Lizzies notched their first victory of the season, and are now undefeated in their past two games, with a thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Big Apples.

Dean (7) cracked a bouncing walk-off grounder toward third base to nail down the win for the Lizzies, and the big slugger was mobbed his jubilant teammates at game’s end.

The three-inning matchup was a tense affair, and reached its nerve-wracking conclusion under the night-time lights at an extremely muggy Christie Pits.

Dean’s game-winner was his second single of the game. Devin (6) also hit a single, and Leif (9) came within inches of reaching first on a ball he smacked into the infield in the first inning. Leif also drew a crucial walk late in the game, bringing home the tying run.

The Lizzies displayed a taste for larceny on the basepaths, with several notching stolen bases. Mark (11) stole second base twice and third base once. Luke (5) was tagged out on his first attempt at stealing third, but made up for it with a successful steal of third later in the game. Dean stole four bases. Fatima (14) and Xavier (8) also stole bases.

Pitching duties were shared by Evan (1), Jasper R. (4) and Devin, and each recorded a strike-out. It was Devin’s long-awaited pitching debut.

While manning third base in the first inning, Devin also caught a foul ball to retire a Big Apple hitter.

It wasn’t an easy game for some of the Lizzies. Three were hit with pitches. Taylor (3) took a fastball to the thigh, and – after gamely touching the first-base bag – walked off to the applause of spectators who admired her grit. Evan was hit on the shoulder, and Luke took a ball off the helmet.

Once again a big thank you to the Lizzies and players and parents of the Mets for accommodating a depleted Giants roster.

Playing from the Mets were Nigel (5), Aaron (9), Simon (8) and Adam.

In an exciting three inning game, the Lizzies outdueled the hybrid team of Giants and Mets (or Big Apples ) 13-12 scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the third to secure the walk off victory.

Leading the Big Apples offence were: Nigel with a bases clearing home run and a triple Collecting doubles were: Aaron, Laine (14) and Adam.  Aaron, Adam, Piper (2), Simon and Cameron all had base hits

Pitching for the Big Apples were Harris (150, Laine and Piper with Cameron and Simon catching.  Cameron made a nice throw to Piper at third base to stop a runner from stealing.

Another fun evening under the lights on Diamond #2!!
