On a gorgeous summer afternoon at Woodford Park, the Bloordale (1) Bombers topped our TP Rookie Ball Selects 20-9 in a hard fought seven inning Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) West Loop Rookie Ball playoff tournament game.

Despite being down 15-2 after three innings, Toronto Playgrounds continued to exhibit enthusiasm, fortitude, heart and spunk in taking the Bombers to seven innings. In the end, Bloordale prevailed in the crucial round robin playoff game.

With their second round robin playoff game loss, our Rookie Ball Selects (1-2) have been eliminated from further playoff contention under the double knockout rules that govern the TBA tournament.

Early on Saturday morning, TP rebounded from a 17-2 Friday evening round robin playoff game loss to Bloordale 1 at Neilson Park. The Rookie Ball Selects manhandled the Martingrove White Sox 17-7 in six innings at Pelmo Park to earn their first victory of the tournament.

The TP win resulted in a Saturday afternoon round robin rematch against the Bloordale (1) Bombers (who were defeated by the Royal York Cardinals 12-11).

Our Rookie Ball Selects finished with a memorable 5-6 regular season record during the 2013 campaign. Additionally, the Rookie Selects had a great time participating in the Lloyd McConnie Tournament in Etobicoke back in July.

This year’s edition of the Rookie Ball Selects also made history when they defeated the Annette A’s 10-4 at Christie Pits on June 11. The victory was the first victory by any TP Rookie Ball Select team since the program was revived back in the summer of 2011.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to commend Rookie Ball Select Head Coach Ron Lopata, Assistant Coaches Jason Koskela, Alex Petro and Jason Troy for guiding such a talented group of players to great heights of success during the 2013 campaign.

The Committee also wishes to congratulate all the Rookie Ball Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond throughout the lengthy course of the 2013 season.

You did us proud. Way to go, TP!
