Beneath glorious summer skies this afternoon at Ravina Gardens, the Royal York (2) Cardinals edged our TP Mosquito Selects 5-4 in a nailbiting 4 ½ inning Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) playoff tournament showdown.

In a taut and thrilling affair, Toronto Playgrounds battled the Cardinals tooth and nail from start to finish. In the end, Royal York 2 held on to prevail in the crucial round robin game.

With their second round robin playoff game loss, our Mosquito Selects (1-2) have been eliminated from further playoff contention under the double knockout rules that govern the TBA tournament.

Early on Saturday morning, TP rebounded from a 11-3 Friday evening round robin playoff game loss to York at Ravina Gardens. The Mosquito Selects edged Weston 8-7 in 4 ½ innings at Smythe Park to earn their first victory of the tournament.

The TP win resulted in a Saturday afternoon round robin match against the Royal York (2) Cardinals.

In a fun filled campaign, the Mosquito Selects finished with a 5-7 regular season record. The Mosquito Selects also had a rewarding experience participating in two tournaments in Mississauga and West Hill during the summer.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to commend Rookie Ball Select Head Coach Bill Evans, Assistant Coaches Matt Macdonald, Casey Maude, Ryusuke Okada, and General Manager Reagan Maude for guiding such a talented group of players to great heights of success during the 2013 campaign.

The Committee also wishes to congratulate all the Mosquito Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond throughout the lengthy course of the 2013 season.

You did us proud. Way to go, TP!
