REBOUNDING FROM A OPENING ROUND ROBIN GAME LOSS, THE O’s WERE ALL BUSINESS AS THEY DEFEATHERED THE JAYS IN WINNING THEIR FIRST ROUND ROBIN GAME OF THE TOURNAMENT

In four plate appearances, Orioles leadoff hitter ‘Scoop’ Maghnus (9) sparked the Orioles offense with a 3 for 3 effort [two doubles, walk, single] to go along with two runs scored and 3 RBI’s.

Bouncing back from a lackadaisical 9-5 opening round robin loss to the Jays on Tuesday, the O’s were all business from the get go in earning their first round robin victory of the tournament.

Here are the highlights:

• The Orioles blasted out of the gates with an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. After a lead off double by ‘Scoop’ Maghnus (9), Ben the “Matrix’ (6) stroked a RBI single to bring the Scoop home. After a fielding error on a deep fly ball by the Jays left fielder allowed ‘Raclette’ Simon (14) to reach base, Sacha the ‘Professor’ (5) delivered the Raclette home with a one out RBI double. ‘Spitz’ Lukas (10) followed with a RBI single to plate the Professor.
• 

  HOMING IN > Jack (3) of the Jays blasted a sizzling two run home run over the left field fence at Christie Pits Diamond 2 in the first inning against the Orioles.

  In the bottom of the second, the Jays scored two to trim the deficit to one. With one out and  a Jays runner on base, Jack (3) crushed two RBI ZOWZA-ZOWZA-OH-MY-MY home run blast over the Diamond 1 chain linked fence in left field.

• Jays starter Alex (9) mowed down three O’s in the top of the second to keep them off the scoresheet.
• O’s starter Raclette (14) punched out two Jays in the bottom of the second to preserve the Orioles one run lead.
• The Orioles exploded for four runs in the top of the third to widen their advantage to 7-2. After ‘J-Roc’ Jamie (2) led off the inning with a walk, the Scoop delivered a RBI double to bring J-Roc home to rap. A subsequent dropped third strike would allow the Matrix to reach first and Scoop to come home to roost. After a single by Raclette, an ensuing double steal manoeuvre by the O’s would allow the Matrix to come home from third with the red pill. Later, a RBI single from Spitz would allow the Raclette to be plated on the dish at home.
• In the bottom of the third, Orioles reliever J-Roc (2) struck out two to keep the Jays off the scoring ledger.
• The O’s scored another three in the top of the fourth to expand their lead to 10-2. With two Orioles on base, Joseph the ‘Diamond Cutter’ (1) stroked a RBI single to bring home Brian the ‘Sizzlah’ (12). After a walk to ‘Ribeye’ Eric (13) loaded the bases, Michael the ‘Iceman’ (3) earned a RBI walk to deliver ‘Lazerwolf” Astrid (11) home. With one out, the Scoop would garner a RBI walk that allowed the Diamond Cutter to saunter home.
• In the bottom of the fourth, the Jays scored two trim the deficit to six. After leading off the inning with a single and a pair of stolen bases, Alex blazed home on a dropped third strike by the Orioles. With one out and two Jays on base, Cam (8) delivered a RBI sacrifice hit to score Jack.
• The Orioles added four insurance runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 14-4.
• With two outs, the Jays refused to quit and gamely rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the shortfall to six. With the bases loaded, Alex stroked a RBI single to bring in Yuki (4). May (11) followed with a RBI walk to plate Sam (7). Jack delivered a RBI walk that allowed Nathan (12) to boogie home. A two RBI double by Angus (1) would allow Alex and May to come homeward bound.
• In the bottom of the fifth, O’s closer Scoop (9) eventually sealed the deal the victory with a one strikeout effort.

The Orioles (1-1) will host the Royals (1-0) in their next round robin game at Christie Pits Diamond 2 on Saturday, September 7 at 5:15 p.m. Meanwhile, the Jays (1-1) will host the Lizzies (0-1) in their next tournament game at Diamond 2 on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.
