Beneath breezy September skies today at Dominico Field at Christie Pits, teams in our Mosquito Division played in six round robin tournament games from morning to evening to complete the round robin portion of the 2013 TP House League Baseball Tournament.

Here are some brief summaries of those games:

CARDINALS 8 GIANTS 5

  • In a tightly contested and well played affair by two talented teams, the Cardinals prevailed 8-5 over the Giants in four innings at Diamond 3 early this morning.
  • With the game tied 3-3, the Cards scored three in the top of second and gradually pulled away from the Mighty Giants to earn their third round robin game victory of the tournament.
  • Cardinals reliever Jonathan (4) pitched two stellar innings where he allowed only run while striking out six Giants. Jonathan also delivered two RBI’s with a sacrifice hit and a walk.
  • Lachlan (7) threw two strong innings where he allowed two runs while mowing down five Cardinals batters.

METS 4 PIRATES 4

  • In a tooth and nail battle where pitching dominated the proceedings, the Mets and Pirates played to a 4-4 tie in four innings of play at Diamond 3 this morning.
  • The bullpens of the Metropolitans and Buccaneers combined for eighteen strikeouts during the proceedings.
  • Adam (7) delivered a clutch two RBI double for the Pirates in the first inning.

DODGERS 4 CUBS 1

  • In a tight game between two well coached teams, the Dodgers prevailed 4-1 in 3 ½ innings early this afternoon at Diamond 3 to win their third round robin game of the tourney.
  • With the game knotted 1-1, the Artful Dodgers scored three in the bottom of the third to surge ahead. Jacob (7) delivered a two RBI double to bring home the bacon.
  • Four Dodgers pitchers combined to strike out nine and limit the potent Cubbies offense to one run.

REDS 12 LIZZIES 7

  • On a Red Letter Day this afternoon at Diamond 2, the Big Red Machine rolled to a 12-7 victory over the Lizzies in four innings to garner their second round robin game win at the tournament.
  • Ethan (12), Nick (3) and Sebastian (9) scored two runs each in the Reds victory.
  • Trailing 12-3, the pesky Lizzies gamely rallied for four in the final inning to trim the deficit to five. However, their comeback bid fell short.
  • The Lizzies offense was launched by Curtis (12) who singled in the first inning and later stole home.
  • In the fourth inning, Fatima (14) stole home on a wild pitch.
  • The Lizzies had strong pitching from Evan (1), Curtis (12), Jasper R. (4) and Fatima. Evan, Curtis and Jasper R. each had strikeouts.
  • Mark (11) had a strong defensive game. In the third inning, while playing catcher, he chased down a wild pitch and tagged out a Reds runner who was attempting to steal home. And in the fourth inning, he made a long throw from centre field to prevent an additional Reds run from scoring.
  • Fatima was sharp at third base, keeping Reds base runners on third as they tried to force a wild throw to third. Xavier was a big help, consistently coming in from left field to back up throws from the plate to third.
  • Eventually, both players saw their persistence pay off. Fatima put the tag on a runner attempting to steal third.? And Xavier backed up a throw that got past Fatima, threw the ball to home and prevented a Reds runner from coming home.
  • Dean (7) made a put out by scooping up a grounder in the fourth inning and beating the runner to first.
