Harbord Collegiate Institute is located on the north side of Harbord Street between Euclid Avenue and Manning Avenue. To enter the school, people must use Door # 5, which is located at the northeast corner of  the school off Euclid Ave. Once you go in that door follow the signs to  the gym. Caretakers have told the Committee that there will be parking available in the underground school lot. The entrance to the lot is off Euclid Ave.  just north of door # 5.

Another series of  indoor Select Team Tryouts will begin on Monday, January 20 at the gym in the Bickford Centre (777 Bloor Street West), and will include Select tryout sessions for the Bantam (1999-2000) and Midget (1996-1998) age divisions.

Here is the TP Select Team Schedule for Monday, January 20 at the Bickford Centre Gym:

  • 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. > Bantam Select (1999-2000) and Midget Select (1996-1998): For the first couple of weeks this time will be for players interested in either our Bantam Select program or our Midget Select program. We are planning on fielding a Midget Select team in 2014.

The Bickford Centre is located on the south side of Bloor Street between Grace Street and Montrose Avenue, right across from the southern section of Christie Pits. To get to the gym, please use the doors at the north end  of the breezeway, which is the area down the stairs from the main  entrance to the building.

Again, players wishing to participate in these indoor Select Team sessions must be registered in our house league baseball program. Registration forms with fees can be handed in on  Monday between 5:30 pm and 6:15 pm, and league representatives will  be on hand to answer parent questions. Registration forms will be  available at the gym.

The Select Team tryouts are open to ALL registered house league players who are interested in playing a more “competitive” brand of baseball. If you’re only interested in playing House League baseball, there is no obligation to participate in the indoor Select tryout sessions. (Evaluations for our House League players will take place in late April.) However, if you’re interested in playing more competitive baseball, we encourage you to come out to the Select Team tryout sessions.

Players will ONLY be allowed to participate in the select tryouts after we have received a completed house league registration for the player, along with either having the full fee paid or having a payment arrangement in place.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Select program is an extension of the house league program. Playing Select gives players the opportunity to play more baseball at a higher skill level without having to make the larger time and financial commitment that is involved with “Rep” baseball. The select team is similar to a “house league all star team.”

Parents and Players are advised that there are tryouts involved for our Select teams, and players have to make the teams. There is a registration fee for the select teams which is in addition to the House League registration fee. The fee will depend upon the number of tournaments the team enters and the type of uniform they decide to use. Players MUST be registered in our house league baseball program in order to tryout for our Select teams.

Additionally, Parents and Players are advised that any player who makes the Select Team MUST fully pay their Select registration fee (and respective House League registration fee) before the start of the Select regular season schedule in order to play for their team. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

Parents and Players are also advised that Select players must also participate regularly and appropriately in our house league program. When playing house league games, the players will be expected to wear their house league uniforms, just as they will be expected to wear their select uniforms when playing their select games.

Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball is looking at being involved in the West Toronto Select Loop for the 2014 season. This loop involves teams from Etobicoke, Weston, York, etc. We are planning to field teams in the Rookie Ball (players born in 2005 and 2006), Mosquito (players born in 2003 and 2004), Peewee (players born in 2001 and 2002), Bantam (players born in 1999 and 2000), and Midget (1996-1998) divisions. Teams will require at least 15 interested and committed players, two or three interested and committed coaches, and at least one parent willing to serve in a manager’s capacity.

There are set nights for select games in each division, and we will be informing you of those as soon as we have confirmed them with the loop organizers.

If you’re interested in participating in the Select program or if you have any other questions please contact us at tpbaseball@gmail.com.
