Under glorious blue skies this afternoon, our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects defeated the Leaside Leafs 9-0 in 4 ½ innings of exhibition game action at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Playing against a very ‘green’ squad from Leaside, TP took advantage of the opportunities presented to them to emerge victorious. The Rookie Ball Selects put together two big offensive innings to pull away from the Leafs, as the team pounded out fourteen hits during the proceedings.

The exhibition game was the Rookie Ball Selects final preseason tune up before they open their 2014 EBA Select regular season on Tuesday (May 13) evening against the Royal York Cardinals at Jeff Healey Park in Etobicoke.

With the Leafs going down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, TP led off with bottom half of the inning with back to back singles by Zev (19) and Theo (17) to put two runners on base. Dexter (10) followed with a RBI single to bring Zev home with the first run of the game.

At this juncture, Cassius (5) crushed a three run home run to the deep dish pizza nether regions of centre field to put TP ahead 4-0. In the end, it was a lead that the Rookie Ball Selects would not surrender.

In the bottom of the third, TP added five insurance runs to salt the game away. With one out and two runners on base, Dexter delivered a RBI single to bring Charlie (7) home and extend the lead to 5-0. After a single by Daniel (8) loaded the bases, Cooper (27) stroked a RBI single that allowed Theo to come homeward bound with the Rookie Ball Selects sixth run of the game.

Seizing the moment, Lewis (13) followed and delivered a grace under pressure 3 RBI triple to propel Toronto Playgrounds into a 9-0 lead.
