Game Post composed by Gordon Belray with file from Kevin Hewitt.

It was another beautiful summer night at Christie Pits Diamond 2 with the Cubs hosting the Mets.

The Mets threatened early in the first, loading the bases with none out on two walks and an error , but hard throwing Cubs starter Nick (14) settled into a groove and allowed only one run [Zenon (10)] with three strikeouts.

The Cubs pounced back in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs on RBI’s by Alexander (2) Julian B (4) and Julian M. (5) and on Nick’s (14) fleet footed base running to take a 4-1 lead.

The Mets threatened again in the top of the second by loading the bases with none out. But swift Cubs catcher Javert (6) erased an attempted steal at the plate on a wild pitch and pitcher Cubbies reliever Isaiah (10) held the Metropolitans to two runs [Dylan (4) and Alden (5)] while racking up two strikeouts.

The Cubs continued to growl in the bottom of the second by scoring four more runs on a leadoff double by Sasha (15) and RBI singles by Cameron (7), Javert (6), and Isaiah (10) who scored on a never stop running single to stretch their advantage to 8-3.

In the top of the third, the Mets scored three runs New York style on three singles and a walk off [Natalie (3), Matthew (8) and Dylan] to trim the deficit to two. Poised Cubs reliever Han (12) pitched his first inning ever, retiring the next two Mets on strikeouts and getting some excellent backup in the field on a 6-2 putout at the plate (shortstop Javert to catcher Nick) after an attempted throw out at third.

The Mets big ace Alden (5) held the Cubbies to one run in the bottom of the third, striking out two and snagging a line drive, But pesky Alexander (2) of the Cubs clawed his way home on a wild pitch after a leadoff walk.

As the evening was beginning to set in, the teams agreed to call it a day, shook hands and ran the bases in glee.
