THE GEEZERS USE SOME SOLID DEFENSE AND CLUTCH HITTING TO SHUTOUT THE SPUDS IN THE SECOND ANNUAL TP DADS PICKUP BASEBALL CLASSIC AT DOMINICO FIELD
Beneath wondrous blue skies for miles around, the Old Geezers defeated the Couch Potatoes 4-0 in four innings of play this morning in the Second Annual TP Dads Pickup Baseball Classic at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.
With the shutout victory, the Old Geezers avenged last year’s 9-4 loss to the Couch Potatoes to even the annual series at 1-1.
In a well played affair, the Geezers used a Geritol formula of clutch hitting, strong pitching and solid defense to bury the Spuds.
The Old Geezers turned a pretty 6-3 double play in the top of the first to extinguish a mojo jojo Couch Potatoes offensive threat to keep the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the first, the Geezers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. With one out, Michael stroked a one out single and Mike stroked a double to put two Geezers on the basepaths. Brian followed with a RBI sacrifice to bring home Michael with the game’s first run. Paul followed with a solid RBI single to plate Mike.
The Geezers used some strong pitching and defense in the top of the second to keep the Spuds off the scoresheet.
The Old Geezers added a pair in the bottom of the second to widen their lead to 4-0. After Michael reached base on a fielder’s choice, Mike followed with a clutch two run home run blast to the deep dish pizza nether regions of centrefield.
In the third and fourth innings, Old Geezer reliever Mike and Couch Potatoes reliever Matt spun their magic to keep each side off the scoreboard.
At this juncture in the proceedings, the game was called on the account that all the father’s who had played in the game needed application of A535 to their sore bodies and their respective nap times.
