TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PREVAILS OVER THE A’s TO WIN ITS OPENING GAME AT THE TOM ASHIZAWA LITTLE “BIG 8” TOURNAMENT AT SMYTHE PARK

Beneath beautiful summer skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects defeated the Annette A’s 8-5 in 4 ½ innings this evening at Smythe Park Diamond A to win its opening game at the Tom Ashizawa Little “Big 8” Mosquito Select Tournament.

Here are the highlights:

  • In a brilliant effort, TP starter Louis (16) pitched three solid innings against Annette while allowing only three runs. Louis was named MVP of the game.
  • Mosquito Select reliever Adi (1) pitched two stellar innings where he surrendered only two runs. Adi kept the A’s off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.
  • In a strong performance, TP catcher Jake (30) caught all five innings behind the dish.
  • TP received some superb defensive work from Alexander (2) who made a nice catch on a pop fly and doubled up an wayfaring Annette baserunner at first with a lightning throw to first.

Eight teams are participating in the weekend ‘double elimination’ format tournament in Etobicoke. Any team that loses two games is knocked out of any further tournament play.

The Mosquito Selects (1-0) will play their next “Big 8” tourney game tomorrow (Saturday, July 19) at Smythe Park Diamond A against either Forest Glen or Newmarket at 12 noon.
