TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS CLIP THE HAWKS TO WIN ITS SECOND GAME AT THE TOM ASHIZAWA LITTLE “BIG 8″ TOURNAMENT AT SMYTHE PARK

Beneath a layer of overcast skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects edged the Newmarket Hawks 6-5 in five innings this afternoon at Smythe Park Diamond A to win its second game at the Tom Ashizawa Little “Big 8″ Mosquito Select Tournament.
In a stellar effort, TP starter Adam (14) threw four scoreless innings against the Newmarket Hawks to earn the win.
Here are the highlights:
- TP starter Adam (14) pitched a gem against the Hawks where he allowed no runs in four stellar innings to earn the win. Adam struck out the side in the first and second innings.
- Mosquito Select relievers Nigel (20) and Aaron (18) combined in the fifth to earn the duo save.
- Nigel was named MVP of the game.
- Dylan (11) went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI’s.
- Aaron had a double and single and RBI and scored a run.
- Nigel had a base hit and 2 RBI’s.
- Adam went 2 for 2 with two runs scored.
- Harris (12) went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
- Ben (4) went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
- Leandro (10) went 1 for 2 at the dish.
- Ben and Jake (30) each scored a run.
- Alexander (2) picked up for an injured Jake behind the plate and caught the entire five innings.
- Dylan made a grat catch on a fly ball in left field to end the third inning and extinguish a Newmarket offensive threat.
With their second victory at the tournament, TP advances to Sunday’s final elimination rounds with a sparkling 2-0 record.
Eight teams are participating in the weekend ‘double elimination’ format tournament in Etobicoke. Any team that loses two games is knocked out of any further tournament play.
The Mosquito Selects (2-0) will play their next “Big 8″ tourney game tomorrow (Sunday, July 20) morning at Smythe Park Diamond A against either Guelph or North York at 9:00 a.m.
