AFTER A TIGHT FIRST INNING, THE BOMBERS PULLED AWAY FROM TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS

Beneath a ceiling of quaint summeresque skies, the Bloordale (2) Bombers defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects 19-6 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was an entertaining affair between two talented teams. In the end, the Bombers prevailed for the victory by utilizing a solid bullpen to stymie the TP offense for three consecutive innings and making the most of the opportunities that were presented to them to pull away for a comfortable win.

Bloordale took advantage of eight walks in the top of the first to take an early 7-0 lead. The Bombers offensive thrust was keyed by a RBI single by Rob (13) and a two RBI single from Carson (11).

Toronto Playgrounds answered back with six runs in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to one. After Piper (29) and Dylan (11) singled to lead off the inning, Adam (14) drew a walk to load the bases. Taking advantage of a Bloordale error, Piper blazed home to score TP’s first run of the game.

After a one out walk to Daniel (52) reloaded the bases, Elena (17) exercised discipline at the dish to draw a RBI walk to bring home Dylan. Kyle (55) followed with a RBI single to score Adam.

With two outs, Piper drew a bases loaded walk to plate Daniel. Dylan followed with a two RBI single that brought Elena ans Kyle homeward.

In the top of the second, Bombers replied with six runs to stretch their lead to 13-6. Max (7) delivered a key two RBI double to spark the Bloordale surge.

The highlight of the inning for TP was reliever Kyle’s (55) pick off of a Bloordale base runner at third. Kyle made a laser throw to third baseman Iliana (9), who deftly applied the tag on Max for the 1-5 putout.

Bloordale reliever Andy (38) struck out two to keep the Minor Peewees off the scoring ledger in the bottom of the second.

The Bombers added a pair in the top of third to extend their advantage to 15-6 on respective RBI singles from Rob (13) and Max.

With guile and finesse, TP reliever Kyle mowed down three Bombers to bring the inning to a close.

In the bottom of the third, Bloordale reliever fanned three TP batters in 1-2-3 fashion to keep them off the scoreboard.

The Bombers tacked on four more insurance runs in the top of the fourth to widen their lead to 19-6. TP reliever Daniel (52) struck out two to bring the inning to a close.

After striking out the first two batters in the bottom of the fourth, Bloordale closer Rob (13) walked three consecutive TP batters to load the bases. Shaken, but not stirred, Rob dug deep into his reserves to induce the next batter to pop up to short and bring the curtain down on the proceedings.

The Minor Peewee Selects (2-8) hit the road next week when they travel to Ravina Gardens to play an EBA Select game against the Annette A’s at 6:30 p.m.
