IN A TP FAMILY AFFAIR, THE MAJOR PEEWEE SELECTS TAKE THE PRIZE OVER THE MINOR PEEWEE SELECTS AT CHRISTIE PITS
Beneath a ceiling of serene summer skies, the TP Major Peewee Selects defeated the TP Minor Peewee Selects 16-3 in 3 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
In a Toronto Playgrounds showdown between its two respective Peewee Select teams, the Major Peewees prevailed for the victory by using a formula of strong pitching, solid defense and an opportunistic offense to dominate the Minor Peewees.
Major Peewee Select starter Arlo (7) struck out two in the top of the first to keep the Minor Peewees off the scoresheet.
The Major Peewees jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Tyler (42) led off the inning with a single and a pair of stolen bases to reach third, Max (17) delivered him home with a RBI sacrifice hit.
With some solid assistance from his defense, Minor Peewee starter Charley (13) limited the Major Peewees to a lone run in the first.
In 1-2-3 fashion, Major Peewee starter Arlo mowed down the Minor Peewees in order in the top of the second to keep them off the scoring ledger.
The Major Peewees sent thirteen batters to the plate in the bottom of the second and exploded for nine runs to take a commanding 10-0 lead. After Jack K. (13) singled and Jacob (2) walked to lead off the frame, a Minor Peewee error would allow Jack K. to blaze home with the first run of the inning. Next, Ben (4) stroked a RBI single to plate Jacob.
Jake (30) followed with a walk to put two Major Peewees on base. At this point, Tyler delivered a clutch two RBI single to bring Jacob and Ben home and put the Major Peewees up 5-0.
After a walk to Max, Owen (5) reached base on an error to load the bases. Sasha (28) followed and muscled a three RBI triple to right field that brought Jake, Max and Owen homeward.
Arlo would follow with a RBI single to score Sasha and widen the Major Peewee lead to 9-0. With two outs, Ben would deliver a RBI single to bring Arlo home with the final run of the inning.
Minor Peewee left fielder Julia (39) made a nice shoestring catch to rob the Major Peewees of a sure hit for the first out of the frame.
The Minor Peewees would answer with a run in the top of the third to trim the deficit to nine. With the bases loaded, Oliver (24) drew a two out RBI walk to bring Elena (17) home.
Major Peewee reliever Jack K. (13) would strike out two to extinguish the Minor Peewees insurrection.
In the bottom of the third, the Major Peewees tacked on six insurance runs to stretch their lead to 16-1.
