Under a canvas of beautiful summer skies, the Bloordale (1) Bombers defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 5-2 in a six inning Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Championship semi-final playoff game today at Millwood Park.

Here are some highlights:

  • TP starter Tyler (42) pitched a strong 4 2/3 innings where he allowed only five Bomber runs.
  • TP reliever Sasha (28) tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Under the double knockout playoff formula in force at the tournament, whereby a team has to lose two games in order to be eliminated, TP (2-2) was knocked out of further playoff contention with their semi-final loss to Bloordale (1).

After a 6-5 opening day loss to the Weston Wolverines on Friday evening put them on the ropes, Toronto Playgrounds rebounded with grit and determination to win a pair of must win games on Saturday to earn a bye into the EBA Peewee Select semi-final round. Taking no prisoners, TP steamrolled over the Bloordale (2) Bombers 22-3 in an early Saturday tilt. In the afternoon affair, the Major Peewees defeathered the Royal York (1) Cardinals 23-2.

Despite falling short in their championship aspirations, overall, it’s been a highly successful 2014 campaign for our Major Peewee Selects as they finished with a 9-5 EBA Select regular season record.

The Major Peewees also had an opportunity to participate in several tournaments during the course of a long season like the East Glen Select Tournament back in June, where TP reached the semi-final stage of the tourney. The team was also competitive at the Southwest London Major Peewee Select Tournament  in mid July. In fact, six Major Peewee Select players earned medals during the skills competition portion of the London tourney.

And Major Peewee players, coaches, parents and family members also had the opportunity to take in a Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre in early June.

Despite the end result, the Major Peewees did everyone proud  this weekend as they played with conviction and passion during the EBA Peewee Select Championship playoff tourney to finish with an overall 2-2 record.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to commend Major Peewee Select Head Coach Mike Pett; Assistant Coaches Brian Herman, Jonathan Stein and  Michael Gödel for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Major Peewee Selects through the highs and lows of the 2014 season.

The Committee also wishes to congratulate all the Major Peewee Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond at the tournament and throughout the long season.

Way to go, TP!
