Under picture perfect summer skies, the Royal York Cardinals defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects 39-13 at Jeff Healey Park this evening on the first day of the 2014 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Championship Playoff Tournament.

TP had a lead over Royal York after three innings of play. However, the Cardinals bats surged to life in the fourth as they battled back to take the lead.

Royal York took control of the proceedings in the sixth when they took no prisoners and scored a savage seventeen runs to bury Toronto Playgrounds six feet deep.

With the loss, TP (0-1) will play the Annette A’s in their next EBA Select playoff elimination game at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (Saturday, August 16) at Neilson Park.

Each of the teams participating in this season’s EBA Rookie Ball Select Championship Tournament are working under a double knockout playoff formula, whereby a team has to lose two games in order to be eliminated. Should a team reach the final round undefeated, they will have to lose twice to be eliminated.
