MOSQUITO > Lizzies Shave Cubs 9-8

THE GO GO LIZZIES HANG ON FOR THE RAZOR THIN SWEET VICTORY OVER THE CUBBIES AT CHRISTIE PITS

Game Post composed with file from Ted Sharp.

Beneath a layer of hazy summer skies, the Lizzies edged the Cubs 9-8 in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Here are the highlights:

  • The Cubs bullpen no-hit the Lizzies in a four inning game (where the Lizzies batted in three frames).
  • However, Cubs pitchers issued fifteen walks (and a hit batsman) that led to nine Lizzie runs.
  • Lizzie aces Louis (3) and Sam (8) each pitched respective shutout innings.
  • Louis also made a fine throw to first to retire the lead runner in the second.
  • With the Lizzies clinging to a 9-8 lead in the top of the fourth, Lizzies closer Sam held the Cubs off the scoreboard to seal the deal on the win..
  • The biggest blow for the Lizzies was a foul pop-up from Riley (11) that flew over the fence and knocked the bell off of a bicycle that was parked there.
