Beneath a blanket of Yo Ho Ho summer skies, the Pirates defeated the Dodgers 8-6 in 3 ½ innings of Sea Doggin’ Mosquito Division action this evening amidst the cool shimmering blue waters of Bickford Park Bay.

In an exciting and pitched battle for control of the mizzenmast, the Buccaneers took charge of the proceedings by capitalizing on their opportunities and using a scallywagging bullpen to stymie the landlubbin’ Dodgers.

The Artful Dodgers used all of their well learned thievery to take an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. After Mateo (10) led off the inning with a double, Alejandro (3) stroked a RBI double to deliver Mateo home to the Captain’s Mess with the game’s first run.

Using his custom made Ruffian, Devin (6) followed with a RBI single to bring Alejandro home. After a pair of daring stolen bases by Devin allowed him to reach third, Harris (12) drew a walk to put two Dodgers on base. Next, Mary (14) delivered a RBI single to plate Devin. With two outs, Mateo hit a clutch RBI single to bring Harris home.

With scurvy dog resolve, Pirates starter Oscar (1) struck out two Dodgers in the top of the first in Man-O-War fashion.

However, the Pirates answered back in Jolly Roger fashion in the bottom of the first by feasting upon a booty of six walks and a pair of singles to tie the match 4-4. With one out and two Bucs on the base paths, Charlie (3) would make good use of his custom made Cutlass to stroke a RBI single to deliver Jeremy (4) home with the Pirates first run.

After a walk to Mark (12) that loaded the bases, Jonah (10), Olivia (6) and Ella (8) would follow with respective RBI walks that allowed Will (13), Charlie and Mark to come homeward bound and even the proceedings.

In the top of the second, Buccaneers reliever Jonah (10) mowed down a pair of Biscuit Eaters in hornswaggle style to keep the Dodgers off the scoring log.

Pirates third baseman Will and first baseman Olivia combined on a pretty Gold Glove chitty chitty bang bang 5-3 putout in the second to help Jonah out and record the second out of the inning.

With Cat O’Nine Tails resolve, the Pirates hoisted the Jacob’s Ladder and scored four in the bottom of the second to take an 8-4 lead. After respective walks by Aaron (2), Oscar and Will loaded the bases to the gills, Charlie used his Cutlass once more to deliver a one out RBI single that brought Aaron home with the go ahead run.

Taking to the Crow’s Nest, Mark and Jonah followed with a pair of bases loaded RBI singles to plate Oscar and Will. Next, Olivia drew a RBI walk that brought Charlie home to roost.

The Dodgers would answer back with a pair in the top of the third to trim the deficit to two. After a pair of singles by Harris and Mary to lead off the frame, Alejandro and Devin would deliver respective RBI singles to bring Harris and Mary home.

Shaken, but not stirred, Pirates reliever Mark (12) would strike out three with hempen halter fervor to quell the Dodgers comeback attempt.

In the bottom of the third, Dodgers reliever Harris (12) would set down the gnarly Bucs in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts to keep them off the scoreboard.

Refusing to accept their destiny, the Dodgers gamely put two runners on base in the top of the fourth in a bid to usurp the proceedings. However, Pirates closer Will (13) and a solid Buccaneer defense combined to extinguish the uprising and seal the deal on a hard fought win.
