Tally-ho! Tally-ho!

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee wishes to remind everyone that the our third annual Derby For Distance Event is scheduled to take place this Sunday (October 5) at Christie Pits Diamonds 1 and 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to try your luck against the pitching machine? We know you’re curious, so now is your chance!

You’ll have an opportunity to hit a baseball coming at speeds varying from 40 to 60 miles per hour. If that’s not enough speed for you…just, ask for more!

The cost is $10 for 10 pitches or $20 for 30 pitches.

Prizes can also be won in the following five categories:

  • Ages 7-10
  • Ages 11-14
  • Ages 15-18
  • Ages 19+
  • TP Baseball Coaches

Our goal is to have fun time while raising funds for the purchase of new equipment that benefit the children in our Toronto Playgrounds House League and Select Baseball operations in upcoming seasons.

Plus, there will be a raffle draw for some great prizes. Prizes will include: new baseball equipment, gift certificates from  local eateries, and our very own, newly commissioned, TP Baseball Stainless Steel Water Bottles.  Chuck, our official “Photo Day photographer, has generously donated a signed Joe Carter photo of his 1993 walk-off  home run, which will be on raffle for one lucky Participant to take home.

Additionally, there will also be food and refreshments on sale at the TP Baseball Barbecue Zone.

TP Baseball is looking for volunteers to help us with the Derby For Distance Event. Positions to fill include marshalling hitters, scoring, “pitching”, shagging balls, BBQ and ticket sellers.

This is a great opportunity for high school students to obtain volunteer hours. All volunteers will receive a free hot dog and drink, not to mention the euphoric feeling of helping TP stay classy!

If you or your friends are available to help for an hour or so on Sunday, please contact either Reagan Maude at reaganmaude@gmail.com or Bill Evans at wianevans@gmail.com.

Everyone is welcome! See you at the Derby!
