THE ARTFUL DODGERS TAME THE GNARLY BUCCANEERS TO SEIZE THE TREASURE CHEST OF SWEET VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS

SONY DSCGame Summary edited with file from Jeff Kolyn

Beneath the shimmery twilight glow of the cool Spring night, the Dodgers prevailed 11-7 over the Pirates in four seafaring innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Dodgers account of the proceedings:

  • The Dodgers started off slow, scoring no runs in the top of the first. Ezra (12) earned a walk, and stole second and third.  Pierro (14) also earned a walk and stolen base.

  • In the bottom of the first, Dodgers starter Wahid (9) made his Mosquito Division pitching debut and pitched for his first time ever. In a spirited outing on the mound, Wahid earned a strikeout swinging.

  • Lucas (2) walked and stole himself around to score the Dodgers first run of the game in the top of the second. Mei (6) walked and stole second and third. Mei scored on Aaron’s (5) crafty single to right.  Aaron then stole himself home to score the third run for the Dodgers.

  • In the bottom of the second, Dodgers reliever Nicholas (15) pitched his first inning of the season and picked up 2 K’s. Nicholas also got a nice force out by Cooper (7) to Aaron at first who made a great snag and swipe tag.

  • Moving to the top of the third, Leo (1) had a solid single and stole second base. Nicholas followed up with a single and a stolen base. Rachel (8) earned a RBI when she delivered Leo home on a fielders choice.  Ezra, Jeremy (4), Pierro, and Joseph (10) all walked with Pierro and Joseph picking up RBI’s to cap off the three run inning.

  • In the bottom of the third, Dodgers reliever Elliott (13) pitched his first inning of the season. (In fact, EIGHT different Dodger players have pitched so far this season!!!) Elliot entered the fray and pitched an excellent frame by throwing strikes and earning two strikeouts. The Dodgers D turned in another ground out from Nicholas to Wahid.

  • With the Dodgers down by one run in the top of the fourth, Lucas started the inning off with a smash single to left, and once again stole himself around the bases to reach home and tie the game. Mei, Cooper and Aaron walked to load the bases, and came home on a perfectly placed single by Joshua (3). Leo then smashed a single to centerfield to score two runs. Nicholas closed out the inning with a fielders choice RBI.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Dodgers closer Aaron pitched his second inning of the year and shut the door on a Pirates comeback rally. Aaron induced a force out at first and rang up two strikeouts while stranding a boatload of Buccaneers and leaving the bases loaded.
