Beneath a canopy of warm and cloudy skies at Etobicoke Valley Park, our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects won their opening two round robin games today at the 2016 edition of the Lloyd McConnie Memorial Select Rookie Ball Tournament.

In their opening round robin game that was contested early this morning, TP defeated the Martingrove White Sox 14-4 in six innings of play at Etobicoke Valley Park Diamond 3. Ahead 6-4, the TP lineup batted around in the sixth frame to score eight insurance runs to salt the game away.

Late this afternoon, TP defeated the Brampton Royals 14-9 in a rain shortened 5 ½ innings at Etobicoke Valley Park Diamond 3 to win their second round robin game.

There are sixteen teams competing in this weekend’s Lloyd McConnie tournament. The teams are divided into four qualifying divisions consisting of four teams each. Only the four teams that win their respective qualifying division will advance to the semi-final and championship playoff rounds.

The TP Rookie Ball Selects currently lead the Bruce Armstrong Division with a 2-0 [4 points] record. TP will play the Newmarket Hawks (1-0-1 [3 points]) tomorrow morning (Sunday, July 10) at Etobicoke Valley Park Diamond 2 at 10 a.m. in their third and final round robin game. A victory or tie by TP versus Newmarket will punch them a ticket into the Lloyd McConnie tournament playoff round.

And a special kudos to Liam (17) for his third place finish in the Lloyd McConnie Base Running competition. And another kudos to Dante (19) for his fourth place finish in the Throwing competition.

Additional updates from the tourney will be posted as they become available.

GO! TP! GO!
