Beneath a ceiling of warm and hazy skies, the Mississauga Majors defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects 18-5 this afternoon in the Vaughan Vikings Mosquito Select Tournament Championship Game that was played at Vaughan Grove Diamond 4.

The TP Mosquito Selects won all three of their round robin games yesterday to qualify for the playoff portion of the Vaughan Tournament.

In an early Saturday morning game at Vaughan Grove Diamond 4, TP defeated the Orangeville Bengals 8-6 in five innings. Down 6-4, TP rallied with four runs in the top of the fifth to usurp the Bengals. TP closer Theo (17) pitched a dominant bottom of the fifth to seal the deal. TP starter Tavaris (55) three strong innings while surrendering only four runs to the potent Orangeville batting order.

In a Friday night round robin affair that was suspended after three innings due to lightning, TP defeated the Barrie Red Sox 15-6 early yesterday afternoon at Vellore Village to win their second game at the tourney.

To cap off a big day, TP prevailed 12-8 over the Ottawa Cubs in a late Saturday afternoon proceeding at Vaughan Grove Diamond 3 to win their third round robin game and punch a ticket into a Sunday morning semi-final playoff game against the Barrie Red Sox.

Early this morning, TP defeated Barrie 16-6 at Vaughan Grove Diamond 4 to advance to a championship game showdown against Mississauga.

The TP House League Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Mosquito Select Head Coach Marco Bianchi; Assistant Coaches Mark Higgins, Andrew Larsen and Adin Wener for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Mosquito Selects into the championship final at the Vaughan Tournament.

The Committee also wishes to commend all of our Mosquito Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond at this weekend’s tournament and throughout the season.

WAY TO GO, TP!
