Beneath a canopy of warm and breezy summer skies, the Cardinals and Mets played to an 8-8 draw in three riveting innings of Peewee Division action this evening at the Bickford Park South Diamond.

Trailing 8-4, the Cardinals refused to surrender as they donned their rally caps in the bottom of third. After leading off the inning with a walk, Reid (13) swiped a pair of bases to advance to third base.

After Mets closer Isaac (4) struck out the next two batters, Dash (8) [a Mosquito Division call up from the Lizzies] would reach base on a dropped third strike to keep the Cardinals hopes alive. As Dash hustled down the first baseline, Reid seized the opportunity to come home from third and trim the deficit to three.

Following a hit by pitch to Spencer (10), Jude (3) would single to load the bases. Jordan (14) followed with a RBI single that allowed Dash to come homeward and make it a two run game.

With two outs and the bases still juiced to the gills, Judith (7) would step into the batter’s box and deliver a grace under pressure 2 RBI single that allowed both Spencer and Jude to motor home and tie the game 8-8.

With the winning run standing at third, Isaac would dig deep into his reserve tank and coax the next Cardinals batter into a dropped third strike putout at first base to bring the curtain down on the proceedings.

The game was an entertaining affair contested by two talented and well coached teams.

Cardinals starter Jordan (14) would strike out two in the top of the first to keep the Mets off the scoring ledger.

In the bottom of the first, the Cardinals would stake themselves to an early 2-0 lead. Following a lead off walk by Spencer and a single by Jordan that put two aboard, Judith delivered a 2 RBI single to bring them home.

Mets starter Jack (1) would strike out one in the first to quell the Cardinals insurgency.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Jack got some nice defensive help from Mets first baseman Emilia (5), who battled the glare of the sun to make a nice catch on an eight mile high pop up to ring up the third out of the inning.

The Metropolitans offense would surge to life in the top of the second as they scored four to take a 4-2 lead. After a lead off walk, Roland (11) would proceed to steal two bases to advance to third. Alden (13) would follow with a RBI double that brought Roland home with the Mets first run of the game.

Isaac (4) would step into the batter’s box and stroke a RBI triple to bring Alden home with the tying run. A subsequent wild pitch would allow Isaac to motor home with the go ahead run.

After Jack, Emilia and Jack M. (8) garnered consecutive walks to load the bases, a Cardinals faux pas would allow Jack to come home and do the twist.

The Cardinals would answer back with a pair in the bottom of the second to deadlock the game 4-4. Pearson (14) [call up from the Twins], Spencer and Jude would draw walks to load the bases. Jordan and Judith would follow with respective one out RBI walks to plate Pearson and Spencer.

With the bases loaded, Mets reliever Roland (11) would pitch himself out the mojo jojo jam by striking out three to subdue the Cardinals rebellion.

In the top of the third, the Mets would tally four to retake the lead 8-4. Following a lead off walk and a stolen base, Jade (6) would come home with the go ahead run after a pair of Cardinals errors.

After Petra (3), James (9) and Matthew (2) drew consecutive walks to load the bases, Leandro (10) would draw a RBI walk to plate Petra.

Roland and Alden would follow with respective RBI singles to bring James and Matthew homeward.
