Beneath a canopy of humid midsummer skies, the Astros defeated the Orioles 12-7 in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at the Bickford Park South Diamond.

The proceeding was an entertaining affair that was contested by two talented and well coached teams. In the end, the Astros made the most of their opportunities to prevail over the O’s.

Exercising great patience at the dish, the Orioles parlayed a Mandarin buffet serving of six walks and a hit in the top of the first to stake themselves to an early 4-0 lead.

With the bases loaded, Rhys (6), Julian P. (7), Martin (14) would garner RBI walks to bring Duncan (10), Lex (15) and Alejandro (8) home to chirp.

To cap off the inning, Ezra (12) would stroke a bases loaded RBI single that allowed Rhys to motor homeward with the O’s fourth run.

Astros starter Steven (1) had a spirited foray on the hill in the first inning.

In the bottom of the first, the Astros would answer back with four to tie the proceeding 4-4. After a double by Steven, Vince (10) delivered a one out RBI single to bring Steven home with the Astros first run of the game.

Following a single by Luca (12), Vince would brazenly steal third and home to trim the deficit to two.

With two outs, Sam (5) stroked a RBI single to plate Luca and pull the Astros to within one.

After Michael (9) walked to put two on board, Mac (12) delivered a RBI single that allowed Sam to blaze home with the tying run.

In a gritty effort on the hill, Orioles starter Alejandro (8) struck out one in the first frame.

The O’s would reply with two in the top of the second to retake the lead 6-4. Following walks by Oscar (1) and Justin (3) that put two on board, Duncan would deliver a one out single to load the bases. Lex followed with a RBI walk that allowed Oscar to come home with the go ahead run.

Subsequently, with two outs and the bases still juiced to the gills, Rhys drew a RBI walk to plate Duncan.

Astros reliever Michael (9) would strike out one in the second inning to subdue the Orioles insurgency.

Michael also helped his own cause with a nice defensive play. With one out and the bases loaded, Michael fielded a sharp comebacker to mound and made a laser throw to Astros catcher Steven to complete the 1-2 force out at home and ring up the second out.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Astros shortstop Vince battled the glare of the Hotter than July sun to snag a dying quail in the shoestrings of his glove to chalk up the third out.

In the bottom of the second, the Astros would answer with four to take an 8-6 lead. After singling to lead off the frame, Matthew (11) would advance to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. An error would allow Matthew to come home and trim the shortfall to one.

Following walks to Ian (7), Steven and Vince that loaded the bases, an O’s faux pas would allow Ian and Steven to come homeward bound and give the Astros a 7-6 advantage.

With a runner at third, Luca would deliver a RBI single to bring Vince home.

Following a single by Matthew that put two ducks on the pond, Ian stepped into the batter’s box and launched an interstellar three run home run blast to the deep dish pizza asteroid belt of centre field.

In a workmanlike effort on the mound, O’s reliever Justin (3) would strike out one in the third inning.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, the pesky Orioles scored a run in the top of the fourth to trim the margin to 12-7. With one out and two mallards on the lake, Alejandro would deliver a sacrifice hit to bring Justin home.

Shaken, but not stirred, Astros reliever Luca (12) would find the groove and strike out two to seal the deal on a hard fought victory over the O’s.
