Beneath a hazy layer of hot and humid skies, the White Sox edged the Mariners 8-7 in three innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Here is a White Sox account of the proceedings:

  • The White Sox took an early lead with four runs in the top of the first, including a brazen steal of home by Ethan (14). Sam (7), Joaquin (11) and Tavaris (5) also scored.
  • White Sox starter Tavaris (5) struck out the side in the bottom of the first.
  • Pitching dominated the second inning, with both teams kept off the scoreboard. White Sox reliever Sam (7) struck out two Mariners in the bottom of the second.
  • In the top of the third, the White Sox scored another four runs in the top of the third to widen their advantage.
  • However, the pesky Mariners mounted a tenacious late game rally and came within one run of tying the game. With two outs and the game on the line, White Sox closer Anthony (9) got the Mariners batter to pop up in the infield, and Willem (12) made a diving catch to end the game!
