Beneath a layer of warm summer skies, the A’s defeated the Rays 8-1 in 2 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Trinity-Bellwoods Park Diamond 2.

Here is an A’s account of the proceedings:

  • It was beautiful day for Mosquito Division baseball as the A’s were visiting the Rays for another evening of competitive play at Trinity-Bellwoods.
  • In the top of the first, the A’s batters faced a hard throwing Rays pitcher. Even though Pasha (7) and Alex (10) showed great patience at the dish by drawing a pair of walks to put two aboard, the A’s were held off the scoreboard.
  • Facing a potent Rays batting order, A’s starter Pasha (7) struck out three but not before the Rays plated a run to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • The A’s came out swinging in the top of the first as Noah (4) and Jean-Olivier (15) walked. This set the table for Jayden (11), who smashed a triple to centre field and then stole home. After Cooper (2) hit a double to right centre, Riley (5) delivered a bases loaded RBI single to cap a four run inning that put the A’s up 4-1.
  • A’s reliever Alex (10) entered the fray in the bottom of the second to preserve the lead. After fielding a hard hit grounder off the bat of the first Rays batter, Alex fired a strike to first baseman Pasha for the first out. Alex then struck out two batters to hold the Rays off the scoreboard.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the third, the A’s Wolf (1) showed great patience at the plate and earned a walked for a RBI and later came around to score by stealing home. Cooper hit a RBI single and the A’s scored four before the game was called due to darkness.
  • All around great effort by both teams showcasing skill and spirit.
