The Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Committee wishes to remind Parents and Players that today (Saturday, August 27) is our Rookie Ball Celebration Day!!! This is the final day of our Junior and Senior Rookie Ball Division season, and we’re hoping that everyone will be able to join us at Christie Pits for all the fun!

Here is the Rookie Ball Celebration Day Schedule for Saturday, August 27:

  • Christie Pits Diamond # 2: Bisons at Mud Hens
  • Christie Pits Diamond # 3: Storm Chasers at Redbirds

  • Christie Pits Diamond # 3: River Cats at Sounds

Please be at your assigned diamond at least 15 minutes before your scheduled game to allow the coaches an opportunity to prepare their player batting orders, P.A. lineups and the BBQ Lunch Order.

Players and coaches [ONLY] will receive a free lunch consisting of a hot dog (meat or veggie) from the TP BBQ Zone, a bag of chips, and a juice box. Hot dogs and drinks will also be available for sale to friends and family members.

Players and coaches playing at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 12:00 noon will receive their free lunch after their game.

And players and coaches playing at 1:15 p.m. should arrive at Christie Pits by 12:45 p.m. to receive their free lunch before your scheduled game.

Parents, we need your help to coordinate the lunch orders for the teams playing at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:00 noon. We’ll be sending someone around to each diamond during the first inning of your game to get a count of how many meat hot dogs and how many veggie hot dogs we need for the free players’ lunches only (not your’s or friends/relatives)…they will be using the list of names provided to the P.A. announcers for the game, so please help them out by saying either meat or veggie when they call out your child’s name. We’ll then be preparing your team’s lunch order near the end of your game…if one or two parents could offer to come to the BBQ to pick up the team order after the trophy presentations that would be appreciated.

The Rookie Ball trophies and photos will be handed out on Celebration Daythey will not be available before Saturday. We will be arranging a time for the trophies and photos not picked up at Celebration Day to be claimed…we will circulate the date time and location by email as soon as it is confirmed.

There will also be an opportunity on Saturday for players who weren’t able to attend our June Photo Day event to have their picture taken. Our photographer will be on hand in the vicinity of the TP BBQ Zone from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

For those of you attending Celebration Day, we have a couple of requests. If you’d be willing to help out with the BBQ for an hour or so (not when you’re child is playing of course!) please let us know by return email. Our illustrious ‘Barbecue Queen’ (a.k.a. Carolyn Murphy) is scheduled to begin the grillin’ around 9:45 a.m. and finish up around 1:15 p.m.

Also, we’re also planning to set up P.A. speakers at each diamond as we’ve done in the past so that the players can have their name announced when they come up to bat (no walk up music though). If there are any older siblings in your family who would like to have a turn announcing names, please let us know on Saturday when you arrive.

In the event of uncertain weather, please check our Hotline [416-392-1914, Press 4], and Twitter feed [@TPbaseballnews] for additional updates pertaining to your scheduled game.

Thanks again for your wonderful participation all season.
