Beneath a layer of warm and humid summer skies, the Twins edged the A’s 5-4 in 4 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Twins log of the game:

  • The Twins held on for a 5-4 win over the A’s on Tuesday night to close out the Mosquito Division regular season.

  • Though the Twins were short staffed, the team emerged with the victory behind some stellar pitching from five different players: Liam M (15), Sadie (2), Myles (12), Julius (11) and Liam B. (8

  • Aggressive base running was the story for the Twins offence as both Sadie and Myles stole home. Sadie battled through a bloody knee after a dynamic slide into third base. While Myles showed his toughness at the plate by taking pitches off his back and helmet in consecutive at bats.

  • The defence limited the A’s to four runs, highlighted by good plays from Thomas (9), Max and call-up Charlie. The younger fill in was the star of the third inning when he recorded two outs at second base.

  • The Twins enter the post season primed to make some noise in the season ending ‘September Madness’ tournament.

Here is an A’s account of the proceedings:

  • It was a rare Tuesday showdown game for the Mosquito House League between the A’s and Twins at Christie Pits # 2. The A’s would like to thank both Nicolas (7) and Zeke (10) for coming up from the Rookie Ball Division to help us bolster our roster this evening.

  • The A’s started off the top of the first with a walk by Wolf (1), who then stole second base. Riley (5) promptly brought Wolf home with a solid RBI double. A fine defensive play by the Twins saw Riley gunned down at third on a steal attempt and some solid pitching from the Twins snuffed out the A’s offense.

  • In the bottom of the first, the Twins used patience and timely hitting to mar what was a fine performance on the mound by A’s starter Alex (10) and plate four to take the lead 4-1.

  • After Cooper (2) led off the top of the second with a double, Rookie Ball call up Nicholas [who will surely make a huge impact in the Mosquito Division next season] moved Cooper along to third. Cooper came in to score on a RBI sacrifice fly by Elias (13) to whittle the deficit to two runs.

  • A’s reliever Elias (13) pitched a solid bottom of the second, yielding only a single run to the Twins. Elias also received some solid defense by Wolf, who sprinted to tag a Twins base runner out while attempting to snag third base.

  • The top of the third saw a single walk by the Athletics that was promptly followed by a cagey steal for Wolf as the mighty Twins pitching sparkled in holding the A’s off the scoresheet.

  • In turn, the Athletics shut down the Twins in the bottom of the third as A’s reliever Cooper (2) pitched a three up three down inning, striking out the side.

  • The A’s started the top fourth inning with two quick outs before an Elias walk was followed up by his brother Zeke’s infield single. Alas, the Twins snuffed out the A’s rally.

  • A’s reliever Pasha (7) pitched a delightful shutout inning in the bottom of the fourth, which included a fine defensive play of his own and a strikeout. Wolf made a solid play on a pop up to freeze out the Twins.

  • As the A’s put on their rally caps down 5-2, Alex came around to score on a two out two RBI double by Pasha. Cooper followed with a two RBI double of his own to pull within a single run of the Twins. However, it was not to be this night for the Athletics as the Twins prevailed in a very well played game by both teams, 5-4 in five innings.
