Beneath a genteel ceiling of warm summer skies, the Red Sox defeated the Royals 11-4 in four innings of round robin tournament action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

The proceeding was a entertaining affair that was contested by two talented and well coached teams. In the end, the Red Sox took charge and rolled to a convincing victory.

In the top of the first, the Red Sox jumped out the gates and staked themselves to an early 3-0 lead. After Anthony (2) led off the frame with a walk and a stolen base, Vincent (4) delivered him home with a RBI double.

Following Vincent’s theft of third, Lucas (11) delivered a RBI single to bring home Vincent.

After a one out walk to Liam (12) that put two aboard, Daniel (5) stroked a RBI single to Plate Lucas.

In a gritty effort on the mound, Royals starter Jonathan (1) struck out one in the top half of the first.

Vincent also helped out his own cause during the inning with a nice solo defensive putout. After a lead off single, Cal (13) of the Royals would swipe a pair of bases to advance to third. Seizing the moment, Cal would attempt a brazen steal of home. However, Vincent noticed Cal’s thievery and bolted over to home plate and tagged Cal out in a chitty chitty bang bang play at the dish to ring up the first out of the frame.

With the wind in their sails, the Red Sox added three runs in the top of the second to widen their advantage to 6-0. After leading off the inning with a pair of walks, Myles (9) and Alex (14) would eventually steal their away around the basepaths and come home to roost on respective steals of home.

After Thomas (13) was hit by pitch, Owen (3) and Adrian (15) would garner walks to load the bases. Vincent would deliver a clutch two out RBI single to plate Thomas.

In a workmanlike foray on the hill, Royals reliever Jack (8) struck out two in the top half of the second.

The Royals offense surged to life in the bottom of the second as they scored three to slice the deficit to three. After Harrison (4), Finn (2) and Jack garnered consecutive walks to lead off the frame and load the bases, Thomas (14) was hit by pitch and that allowed Harrison to come home with the Royals first run.

Henry (3) followed with a one out 2 RBI single to bring home Finn and Jack.

In a spirited effort, Red Sox reliever Sasha (6) struck out one in the bottom of the second.

The Red Sox would respond with a pair in the top of the third to stretch their lead to 8-3. After Lucas and Sasha led off the frame with back to back walks, Liam singled to load the bases. Daniel followed with a RBI walk to plate Lucas. A subsequent faux pas by the Royals would allow Sasha to come home to crow.

Royals reliever Cal (13) would strike out two in the top of the third to quell the Red Sox insurgency.

Lucas was also helped out during the inning by a nice play from his defense. With one out, Lucas (6) crushed a fly ball to left field. However, Red Sox left fielder Anthony made a nice shoestring catch in the webbing of his glove to rob Lucas.

In the top of the fourth, the Red Sox would tally three insurance runs to salt the game away. With one out and two mallards on the lake, Vincent stroked a 2 RBI double that allowed Adrian and Anthony to come home to do the watusi. After stealing third, Vincent would bolt home on an error on the play.

Refusing to surrender, the Royals gamely battled back with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Following a lead off triple by Cal, Jonathan delivered him home with a run scoring sacrifice hit.

Finding the groove, Red Sox closer Anthony (2) would strike out two in the fourth to seal the deal on the 11-4 victory.
