TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS TAME THE WOLVERINES TO EARN THEIR THIRD EBA SELECT VICTORY OF THE SEASON

With home plate umpire Thomas Roy and Weston catcher Queinten (2) looking on, Charlie (7) launches a solo home run blast over the left field fence to lead off the top of the third inning at Christie Pits Diamond 2. Beneath a blanket of tranquil skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects defeated the Weston Wolverines 14-8 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Due to a bizarre quirk by the EBA schedule maker, Weston was deemed the home team at Christie Pits and TP were the visitors tonight. Go figure?!

TP would stake itself to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first. Following back to back walks by Theo (17) and Camille (11) to lead off the frame, Solly (27) would stroke a RBI single to bring Theo home with the first run of the game.

With one out and two aboard, Noah (23) would hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Camille to come home to roost.

Subsequently, with two outs and a runner at third, Jordan (10) would deliver a RBI single to bring Solly home.

Following a walk to Brayden (33) that put two ducks on the pond, Charlie (7) would power a two RBI double to bring Jordan and Brayden home to do the watusi.

Refusing to wave the white flag, Weston would gamely battle back with a run in the bottom of the second to trim the margin to 10-1. With one out and the bases loaded, Matthew (24) would draw a RBI walk that allowed Andre (27) to saunter home with the Wolverines first run.

Jordan (10) connects for a RBI single in the second inning. Jordan would go 3 for 3 [three singles] versus Weston with two runs scored and 2 RBI’s.

With the bases still juiced to the gills, TP starter Kieran would pitch himself out a mojo jojo jam by getting Lucas (3) to hit into an inning ending 1-2-3 double play. After coaxing Lucas to ground back to the mound, Kieran made a quick throw to catcher Brayden, who stepped on home plate to erase Wolverine baserunner Demitri (8), who was coming home from third, for the second out. Then Brayden made a cannon throw down the line to first baseman Ezra (14) to ring up Lucas for the third out.

TP would get that run back lickety split in the top of the third when Charlie launched a majestic leadoff solo home run blast over the fence in left field.

Weston reliever Jordan (13) would shake it off and strike out two in the third to quash the TP insurgency.

In the bottom of the third, the Wolverines would parlay five hits and three walks into a six run rally to trim the deficit to four. Following a leadoff single and stolen base by Darren (10), Ricardo (8) would drive him home with a RBI single.

In three at bats, TP leadoff batter Theo (17) would go 2 for 2 [walk, two singles] against the Wolverines with three runs scored and a RBI.

After a single by Andy and a walk by Queinten (2) loaded the bases, Demitri (8) stroked a one out RBI single to plate Ricardo. With two outs and bases still loaded, Jordan and Matthew would garner back to back RBI walks to bring home Andy and Queinten.

With the bases juiced to overflowing, Lucas would deliver a two RBI single that allowed Demitri and Jordan to come home to crow.

TP reliever Liam (26) would strike out two in the third to extinguish the Weston uprising.

Liam would also get a little defensive help from his friends during the inning. With two out and Wolverines at second and first, Matthew bolted from second base in a brazen bid to steal third. However, Matthew’s foray was thwarted when TP catcher Noah made a rocket throw to third baseman Cooper (2), who tagged out Matthew to ring up the 2-5 putout.

TP would answer with a pair in the top of the fourth to stretch their lead to 13-7. Following a leadoff single, Theo would advance to second on a Weston error. After stealing third, Theo would come homeward bound on a wild pitch.
