SELECT > Royal York Girls Top TP Major Peewee Selects 13-7

TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE CARDINALS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT QUEENSWAY PARK

Under a canopy of warm and hazy skies, the Royal York Girl Cardinals defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 13-7 in 4 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Queensway Park.

Here is a brief recap of the proceedings courtesy of Paul Kelly and Jeff Kolyn:

  • Taking advantage of a series of walks and errors, TP jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Sloppy defence by TP allowed Royal York to seize the momentum and rally.
  • The second time around in the batting order, TP started to figure out the Cardinals tricky pitching.
  • As a result, TP tallied three runs in the third. The TP attack was spearheaded by a double from Taio (1).
  • Taio powered the TP offence with two hits and three RBI’s.
  • Jamie (52) delivered a nice double.
  • However, the TP bats went flat in third and fourth against the Royal York relief corps.
  • With the defensive lapses, TP pitchers Jashan (13) and Rory (12) averaged four outs per inning against the pesky Cardinals.
  • Meanwhile, TP reliever Max (20) entered the fray to retire one batter.
  • TP reliever Nicolas (10) retired three Cardinals in a row with the clock ticking in the bottom of the fourth to get TP back up to bat in the fifth for one last chance against Royal York. Unfortunately, TP didn’t rise to the occasion for a comeback rally.
  • A tip of the cap to the Royal York Girls bullpen for neutralizing the potent TP batting order.
  • Kudos to the Cardinals batter who powered a two RBI triple against TP!!!

The TP Major Peewee Selects (4-2) continue their EBA Select road trip next Wednesday, June 21 when they venture to Smythe Park to play against the York Riverdogs at 6:15 p.m.
