THE DEVILISH RAYS CLAM CHOWDER THE BEANTOWNERS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Rays starter Liam (7) combined with three relievers to limit the potent Red Sox batting order to only four runs over the course of four innings.

Beneath a ceiling of warm midsummer skies, the Rays defeated the Red Sox 12-4 in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

  • Before enthusiastic fans consisting of parents and park visitors, the Rays played host to the Red Sox in a Mosquito Division matchup at Christie Pits.
  • Rays starter Liam (7) pitched in the top of the first and yielded only a single run to the Red Sox.
  • In the bottom of the first, the Rays replied with four to take a 4-1 lead. The Rays offence was sparked by hits from Liam and Charlie C. (11), with some walks and double-steals from Liam, Jonas (13), Alex (9), and Nikhil (1).
  • The top of the second saw reliever Alex (9) making his 2017 Mosquito Division pitching debut for the Rays. Alex pitched well to limit the Beantowners to just two runs and keep the Rays in the lead 4-3.
  • Charlie Z. (5), Liam, and Euan (4) all had important hits in the bottom of the second to widen the Rays lead to 8-3.
  • Rays reliever Jonas (13) pitched a solid third where he surrendered only one run to the Red Sox.
  • In the bottom of the third, the Rays got hits from Liam [who went 3-3], a double from Jonas, and singles from Alex and Charlie C. to score four more and increase their lead to 12-4.
  • Rays closer Charlie Z. (5) entered the fray in the top of the third and shut the Red Sox down without giving up a run to seal the deal on the victory.
  • The Red Sox fell to the Rays 12-4 in an entertaining game by both teams.
