IN AN ALL TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AFFAIR, THE GRITTY MAJORS PREVAIL OVER THE PESKY MINORS AT CHRISTIE PITS FOR THEIR FOURTH EBA MOSQUITO SELECT LOOP VICTORY

Charlie (6) delivers a RBI single during the TP Major Mosquito Selects six run surge in the third inning against the TP Minor Mosquito Selects at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a blanket of warm and hazy skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Mosquito Selects defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Mosquito Selects 10-5 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The all TP proceeding was an entertaining and well played game that was contested between two talented teams. In the end, TP Major prevailed after exploding for six runs in the third frame to snap a 2-2 tie and pull away for their fourth victory of the season.

Niko (2) delivers a RBI double for the TP Major Mosquito Selects in the fifth inning. In three at bats, Niko sparked the TP Major offence by going 2 for 2 [single, walk, double] at the dish with two RBI’s.

In the top of the first, TP Major jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. After a leadoff single by Jack (4), Liam (13) was hit by pitch (with one out) and Zach (24) drew a walk to load the bases. After Charlie (9) was called out on a dropped third strike (for the second out), a passed ball by TP Minor on the play allowed Jack to motor home from third with the opening run of the game.

TP Minor Mosquito starter Momo (18) would strikeout two and induce a groundout in the first to extinguish the TP Major insurgency.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, TP Major Mosquito starter Eitan (19) would chalk up a groundout and two strikeouts in the bottom half of the first to keep TP Minor off the bases.

The TP Major Mosquito Selects added a run to their tally in the top of the second to increase their lead to 2-0. After reaching base on a dropped third strike to open the inning, a TP Minor error would allow Guillermo (14) to blaze around the horn to third base. Niko (2) followed with a RBI single to bring Guillermo home.

TP Minor Mosquito Select reliever Charlie (8) battles the glare of the setting sun to catch an eight mile high pop up in the fourth frame. After reeling in the catch, Charlie threw over to second to complete a 2-4 double play against TP Major.

TP Minor starter Momo would strikeout two in the second to quell the TP Major mutiny.

Momo also received a little help from his friends during the inning. With no outs, TP Minor catcher Dylan S. (10) made a rocket throw to second baseman Cody (11) to erase speedy TP Major baserunner Niko and thwart her bid to steal second base on a pretty 2-4 putout.

In the bottom portion of the second, TP Minor rallied for a pair to deadlock the game 2-2. After a leadoff single and stolen base, William (33) would motor all the way home on a TP Major error to score TP Minor’s first run.

Cody and Adam (12) singled with one out to put two ducks on the pond. Subsequently, with runners at third and second, a passed ball by TP Major allowed Adam to advance to third and brought Cody home with the tying run.

Cool as a cucumber, TP Major starter Eitan would strikeout three in the second to subdue the TP Minor uprising.

Guillermo (14) delivers a RBI single during TP Major’s two run surge in the fifth, In three at bats, Guillermo went 2 for 3 [DK, two singles] at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI’s.

With focus and determination, TP Major answered back quickly in the top half of the third with six runs to take an 8-2 advantage. After a leadoff walk by Jamie (8), Lukas (23) drew a one out walk to put two otters on the lake. Liam (13) followed with a RBI single to bring Jamie home with the go ahead run.

Following a walk by Zach (24) that loaded the bases, Charlie (6) stroked a RBI single to plate Lukas. Subsequently, TP Major executed a series of steals that allowed Charlie to move to second, advanced Zach to third. and brought Liam home with a run.

With two outs and two aboard, Guillermo (14) delivered a RBI single to bring Zach home to crow. Subsequently, Charlie would brazenly steal home to score another TP Major run.

After a walk by Niko that put two mallards on the pond, Eitan followed with a RBI double that brought Guillermo home with the bacon.

Dylan S. (10) of TP Minor eludes the tag of TP Major third baseman Jamie (8) to slide safely into third base with a triple in the fourth inning. Dylan S. would subsequently score on a wild pitch

TP Minor reliever Charlie (8) entered the fray from the bulllpen in the third frame to strikeout two to douse the TP Major insurrection.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, TP Minor rallied for a pair in the bottom of the third to trim the margin to 8-4. After getting hit by pitch to open the inning, Jamie (23) exacted his revenge by stealing his way around the horn to third base. On his theft of third, Jamie took advantage of a TP Major error to bolt homeward with a run.

With two outs, Dylan P. (9) drew a walk and advanced to second on a TP Major faux pas. Dylan P. would subsequently come home with a run after a pair of wild pitches.

Shaken, but not stirred, TP Major reliever Finn (15) would ring up two strikeouts and induce a pop out in the third to end the TP Minor rebellion.

In three up and three down fashion, TP Major closer Charlie (6) mowed down three TP Minor batters on 3 K’s to seal the deal on the 10-5 win.

TP Minor would retire TP Major in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the fourth to keep them off the scoring ledger. The inning featured a nice defensive gem by TP Minot reliever Charlie. With one out and a TP Major baserunner on second, Charlie coaxed Liam into an eight mile high pop up. Battling the glare of the setting sun, Charlie made a nice catch to tally the second out. Noticing that the TP Major baserunner at second had wandered afar from the base, Charlie made a lightning toss to second baseman Dylan S. to chalk up an inning ending double play!

In the bottom of the fourth, pesky TP Minor scored a run to cut the shortfall to 8-5. Following a leadoff triple, Dylan S took advantage of a TP Major wild pitch to bolt home with a run.

TP Major reliever Finn would induce a pair of pop outs and a strikeout in the fourth to end the TP Minor uprising.

The TP Major Mosquito Selects added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth to widen their lead to 10-5. After a one out walk and stolen base by Charlie, Guillermo delivered a clutch two out RBI single to bring Charlie home. Niko followed with a grace under pressure RBI double that allowed Guillermo to come home and do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.

TP Minor reliever Charlie rung up two groundouts and a strikeout in the fifth to diffuse the TP Major insurgency.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, TP Major closer Charlie (6) struck out three in the bottom of the fifth while steering a John Deere E150 22-HP V-Twin Hydrostatic 48-inch Lawn Tractor to seal the seal on their hard fought victory.
