DOWN 7-3, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS STAGE AN EIGHT RUN RALLY TO PREVAIL OVER THE BOMBERS AT CHRISTIE PITS FOR THEIR FIFTH EBA MOSQUITO SELECT LOOP VICTORY OF THE SEASON

After taking the throw from catcher Di Corrado (27), Bloordale third baseman Kuszayryan (1) tags out TP baserunner Jack (4) on a 2-5 putout play to thwart his bid steal third in the first inning during an EBA Mosquito Select game at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Taking advantage of a wild pitch, Gold baserunner Sharples (19) eludes the tag of TP second baseman Niko (2) to steal second in the first inning.

Beneath a serene blanket of warm blue skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Mosquito Selects defeated the Bloordale Gold 11-7 in 3 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Mosquito Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The dog days of summer proceeding was an entertaining contest between two talented teams. In the end, a pesky TP squad rallied from a 7-3 deficit to prevail over the gritty Gold Bombers for their fifth victory of the season.

Bloordale jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first. After a two out single by Sharples (19), Kuszayryan (1) delivered a RBI double to bring Sharples home with the opening run of the game.

TP starter Markus (29) tallied a groundout and a pair of strikeouts in the first to douse the Gold insurgency.

Charlie (6) utilizes his Grand Theft skulduggery to steal third base in the first inning.

In the bottom of the first, TP replied to the Bombers salvo by scoring a run to deadlock the match 1-1. After stroking a single to lead off the inning, Charlie (6) brazenly stole his way around the horn to reach third. A subsequent wild pitch by the Gold would allow Charlie to motor home with the tying run.

Bloordale starter Ancheta (14) would ring up a strikeout and a fly out in the first to end the TP mutiny.

Ancheta would also receive a little help from his friends during the frame. With no outs and a TP base runner at second, Gold catcher Di Corrado (27) would hook up with third baseman Kuszayryan on a nice 2-5 putout to thwart Jack’s (4) attempt to steal third base.

TP starter Marcus would chalk up a strikeout and a pair of groundouts in the top of the second to keep the Gold Bombers off the scoring ledger.

TP starter Marcus (29) threw two solid innings where he allowed only one run while striking out three Bombers.

TP would score two in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. After a one out walk, Devon (16) would swipe second and advance to third on a Bloordale error. Markus drew a walk and garnered a stolen base that put two ducks on the pond. Charlie followed with a 6-3 groundout that advanced Markus to third and brought Devon home with the go ahead run.

With two outs, Lukas (23) stroked a clutch RBI single to plate Markus.

Gold starter Ancheta would ring up a strikeout and a groundout in the second to diffuse the TP rebellion.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Ancheta would also help his cause during the inning when he took receipt of a 2-1 toss from his catcher Di Corrado to thwart Jack’s bid to steal home on a wild pitch.

After taking the throw from his catcher, Bloordale starter Ancheta (14) tags out TP baserunner Jack (4) to thwart his bid to come home on a wild pitch in the second inning.

In the top portion of the third, the Gold Bombers exploded for six runs to take a 7-3 lead. After Matutat drew a one out walk, Gibson launched a RBI double to bring Matutat home and trim the deficit to one.

As he stole third, a TP error would allow Gibson to speed homeward with the tying run.

After Di Corrado and Sharples drew back to back walks that put two otters on the lake, both runners moved up a base on respective steals. A subsequent TP wild pitch would allow Sharples to advance to third and brought Di Corrado home with the go ahead run.

After Kuszayryan reached base after being hit by pitch to put two swans on the pond, Mackenzie (11) stroked a two out RBI single to plate Sharples. A TP faux pas on the play would allow Mackenzie to advance to third and bring Kuszayryan home to crow.

With a runner at third, Ancheta followed with a RBI double to bring Mackenzie home.

Upon taking receipt of the throw from left fielder Devon (16), TP catcher Lukas (23) tags out Bloordale baserunner Ramotar (21) on a 7-2 putout play to erase his bid to score in the fourth inning.

TP reliever Liam (13) would tally a groundout and two strikeouts in the third to quell the Bombers uprising.

Exercising patience at the Mandarin buffet line, TP feasted upon a serving of six walks and four hits in the bottom of the third frame to rally for eight runs and retake the lead 11-7. Following a leadoff walk by Liam and a single by Jamie (9), Niko (2) drew a walk to load the bases. Devon and Markus followed with back to back RBI walks that brought Liam and Jamie home to roost.

With no outs the bases still juiced to the gills, Charlie stroked a RBI single to bring Niko home. Jack followed with bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Devon to come home with the tying run.

With the bases still loaded, Lukas delivered a RBI single to bring Markus home with the go ahead run. A Bloordale error on the play would allow Charlie to score.

Subsequently, with one out and a runner on third, Zach (24) stroked a RBI single to plate Lukas.

Later, with two seals on the lake, Jamie stroked a RBI single to bring Zach home.

TP closer Charlie (6) seals the deal on the victory with a 1-2-3 effort in the fourth frame.

Bloordale reliever Kuszayryan (1) would register a strikeout and groundout in the third to bring the curtain down on the TP insurrection. A 2-1 defensive putout would also aid his cause during the frame.

TP closer Charlie (6) would strikeout a pair in the top of the fourth to seal the deal on a hard fought victory over the Gold.

Of note, the TP defence shone during the final inning with a sweet 7-2 putout. After leading off with a double, Bloordale’s Ramotar (21) stole third. As the throw to nab him sailed into left field, Ramotar made a brazen bid to come home. With Ramotar charging homeward, TP left fielder Devon corralled the ball and made a laser throw to catcher Lukas, who tagged out Ramotar to erase his scoring bid.

After a well deserved break during the Civic Holiday long weekend, the TP Major Mosquito Selects (5-4) are scheduled to resume play on the EBA Mosquito Select Loop circuit on Saturday, August 11 when they travel to Martingrove Gardens to battle the Martingrove White Sox at 6:00 p.m.
