DEADLOCKED AT 4-4, THE GOLD BOMBERS SCORE EIGHT RUNS IN THE FINAL INNING TO PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

After taking the throw from catcher Cooper (7), TP third baseman Milo (27) tags out Bloordale Gold baserunner Ryan (4) on a 2-5 putout to thwart his steal attempt of third in the top of the first inning during an EBA Peewee Select Loop Game at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Under a blanket of warm and sunny skies, the Bloordale Gold defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Selects 12-5 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

TP starter Vincent (19) threw a strong 3 1/3 innings against Bloordale. Vincent surrendered four runs while strking out four Gold Bombers.

The dog days of summer proceeding was an entertaining contest between two talented teams. In the end, the Gold Bombers took the bull by the horns in the final frame by snapping a 4-4 deadlock to earn their sixth victory of the season.

In the top half of the first, Bloordale jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. After Clarke (20) stroked a two out single, Declan (7) drew a walk to put two ducks on the pond. As Clarke slid into third base with a steal, the TP defence committed an error that allowed Clarke to come homeward with the opening run of the game.

TP starter Vincent (19) would ring up two strikeouts in the first to end the Gold Bombers insurgency.

Vincent also received a helping hand from his friends in 2-5 fashion during the inning. After stroking a leadoff single and stealing second, Ryan (4) made a brazen bid to steal third. However, TP catcher Cooper M. (7) rifled a throw to third baseman Milo (27), who adroitly slapped the tag on Ryan to vanquish his Grand Theft ambitions.

Cooper M. (7) delivers a RBI single during TP’s three run surge in the third inning. In three at bats, Cooper M. went 3 for 3 [three singles] at the plate to power the TP attack with two runs scored and two RBI’s.

TP would quickly answer back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. Following a leadoff double and stolen base by Vincent, Cooper M. delivered a one out RBI single to that brought Vincent home with the tying run.

Bloordale starter Jacob (2) would tally a pair of strikeouts and a fly out in the first to douse the TP mutiny.

The Gold Bombers threatened in the top of the second when they loaded the bases. However, TP starter Vincent chalked up a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to get out of the inning unscathed.

Following a one out walk in the bottom of the second, Milo stole his way around the horn to get into scoring position at third. However, Bloordale starter Jacob struck out the next two TP batters to terminate the threat.

The Gold Bombers offence came to life in the top of the third as they scored three to take a 4-1 lead. After Jake (15) led off the frame with a single, Declan (7) reached base via a hit by pitch and Isaac (14) garnered a walk to load the bases. With one out, Jacob drew a bases loaded RBI walk to bring Jake home with the go ahead run.

Bloordale starter Jacob (2) pitched three strong innings against TP. Jacob allowed four runs while striking out four.

With the bases still loaded, Nathan (91) delivered a two RBI single that allowed Declan and Isaac to come home to crow.

TP reliever Luca (12) would enter the fray from the bullpen and tally a strikeout and a groundout to end the Bloordale rebellion.

Not to be outdone, TP replied with three in their half of the third to knot things up at 4-4. After back to back walks by Vincent and Sam (2) to open the inning, Cooper M. stroked a RBI single to plate Vincent.

Subsequently, with one out and the bases loaded, Cooper N. (3) hit into a groundout that allowed Cooper M. to score and trim the shortfall to one.

After Milo was hit by pitch to reload the bases, Charlie (8) delivered a RBI single that brought Luca home with tying run.

Gold Bombers starter Jacob would register three groundouts in the third to extinguish the TP uprising.

Exercising patience at the dish, Bloordale would send a conga line procession of fourteen batters to the Mandarin buffet line in the top of the fourth, to feast upon a TP serving of nine walks, and score eight runs to take a 12-4 lead.

After Jake came home from third on a TP faux pas with the go ahead run, the Gold Bombers proceeded to load the bases. Nathan (91), Ryan, Spiros (10), Clarke, Jake, Declan and Robert (9) followed with respective bases loaded RBI walks.

With one out and the bases juiced to the gills, TP reliever Sam (2) entered the fray to ring up two strikeouts to extinguish the Bloordale five alarm insurrection.

Cooper N. (3) delivers a RBI groundout during TP’s three run surge in the third inning. In three at bats, Cooper N. went 1 for 3 [single] at the dish with two RBI’s.

TP gamely rallied with a run in the bottom of the fourth to trim the shortfall to seven. After a two out single by Cooper M., Luca and Charlie (6) drew back to back walks to load the bases. Cooper N. followed with a RBI single to plate Cooper M.

Nonplussed, Gold Bombers closer Jake (15) would ring up a strikeout to leave the bases loaded and seal the deal on the Bloordale victory.

Jake also received a big 2-5 assist from his defence in the final inning. After leading off the frame with a walk and a stolen base, Vincent made a bold dash to steal third. However, Bloordale catcher Isaac made a rocket throw to third baseman Nathan, who applied the tag on Vincent to thwart his Grand Theft dreams.

The TP Peewee Selects (2-12) hit the road next week for their final regular season game before the 2018 EBA Peewee Select Playoff Tournament (August 10-12).
