Beneath a canopy of serene Spring skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects and the York Riverdogs played to a 12-12 draw in six scintillating innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Loop action this evening at Smythe Park.

Here is a brief recap of the proceedings:

  • T’was a beautiful evening at Smythe Park as the TP Rookie Ball Selects girded for battle against the York Riverdogs.
  • TP jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After leadoff batter Caz ripped a double into the shaggy grass area of centre field, Michael brought Caz home with the opening run of the game. Eamon and Nico also contributed hits during the inning.
  • Toronto Playgrounds had an epic top half of the second when they exploded for four runs. Henry, Logan and Caz, Zach and Michael combined to contribute crucial hits to the TP attack. Malito hit a huge double that brought Henry home with the peameal bacon.
  • Down 10-7, the TP bats came alive in the top of the sixth when Toronto Playgrounds rallied with five runs to take a 12-10 lead. The TP surge was sparked by respective singles from Ciaran, Henry, Max and Logan. Jack delivered a key mojo jojo double during the comeback effort.
  • Not to be outdone, the pesky Riverdogs rallied back with a pair in the bottom of the sixth to tie TP 12-12.
  • Special kudos goes to the TP parents for getting their players to the Smythe Park on time for the game.

The TP Rookie Ball Selects (1-2-1) take on the Weston Wolverines in their next EBA Rookie Ball Select Loop game on Tuesday, May 28 at Christie Pits Diamond 3 at 6:00 p.m.
