Beneath a pristine duvet of warm blue skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Mosquito Selects went down swinging this afternoon at Sesquicentennial Park in their final round robin game at the Brampton Minor Baseball Incorporated (BMBI) Mosquito Select Tournament.

A gritty TP squad kept their proceeding against the Thornhill Reds close for 1 ½ innings as they trailed by only three runs.

However, the Big Red Machine offence surged to life with tsunami force in the latter innings as Thornhill pulled away for a 47-0 three inning victory.

With their round robin game loss to the Reds, TP was officially knocked out of the tournament.

Toronto Playgrounds journey at the tourney commenced on Friday night with a round robin game against the Markham Mariners.

With grit and determination, TP starter Julian (77) and relievers Charles (11) and Henry B. (14) combined to hold the pesky Mariners at bay for most of the game.

With the bases loaded, Chase (23) delivered a three RBI hit to rally TP in the latter innings.

Ben (15) advanced TP baserunners during each of his at bats to keep the momentum going.

Sawyer (43) sparked the TP offence with a good hit and a Grand Theft of third base.

In the end, TP did not cash in on their opportunities to blow the game wide open during the 3 ½ inning affair as Markham prevailed for a 12-6 victory.

Early on Saturday morning, TP girded themselves for a Nordic battle versus the Vaughan Vikings.

With some flawless defence behind them, TP starter Oliver (35) and reliever Holden (25) kept the Vikings moored to the docks in the early innings.

Solid hits from Mike (9), Julian, Sawyer and Holden ignited the TP offence.

However, the plundering Vikings ultimately pulled away from shore with a 3 ½ inning 23-1 round robin victory over TP.

Despite their early departure from the BMBI tourney, the entire TP Minor Mosquito Select Team had a fun and rewarding experience this weekend during the round robin phase of the tournament in Brampton.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to commend all the Minor Mosquito Select players, coaches, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the tournament and during the course of the 2019 season.

WAY TO GO, TP!
