UNLEASHING A 32-HIT TSUNAMI, THE ATHLETICS BURY TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

GRAND SALAMI > With the bases loaded, Henry S. (12) delivers a clutch two out four run grand slam home run during Annette’s seven run surge in the top half of the second inning, during an EBA Rookie Ball Select Loop Game against Toronto Playgrounds at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Beneath a canopy of warm and humid summer skies, the Annette A’s defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects 22-0 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

The lopsided proceeding was an entertaining contest between two talented teams. In the end, it was simply not TP’s day as the bats went cold and the Athletics unleashed a thirty-two hit barrage to shut out Toronto Playgrounds.

In the top portion of the first, Annette sent a conga line procession of twelve batters to the plate as they churned out eleven hits to stake themselves to an early 7-0 lead. Following a leadoff triple by Sam (11) and a single by Lucas (77) that put two aboard, Carson (16) delivered a two RBI triple to bring them home with the opening runs of the game.

With a runner on third, Jack (7) launched a RBI triple to bring Carson home. Feidhlim (10) followed with a 4-3 groundout that allowed Jack to chug home from third.

Jack (7) delivers a RBI triple during the A’s seven run first inning explosion. In four at bats, Jack went 4 for 4 [triple, single, double, single] to power the Annette attack with four runs scored and three RBI’s.

After a pair of one out singles by Jake (2) and Cohen (8) that put two ducks on the pond, Turner (3) stroked a RBI single that brought Jake home. With two aboard, Henry T. (88) hit a RBI single to plate Cohen.

Henry T. (88) strokes a RBI single for Annette in the first frame. In three at bats, Henry T. went 2 for 3 [two singles] with a run scored and two RBI’s.

Following a single by Henry S. (12) that loaded the bases, Evan (9) delivered a RBI hit that allowed Turner to come home and crow.

After TP quickly went down in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the first, the Athletics offensive juggernaut continued unabated in the top half of the second as they uncorked a seven-hit attack to add seven more runs to their tally and increase their advantage to 14-0. Following a leadoff single by Lucas and a double by Carson that put two capybaras on the diamond, Jack stroked a RBI single to bring Lucas home.

Following a one out single by Jake that loaded the bases, Cohen delivered a RBI single that brought Carson homeward. Subsequently, with two outs and the bases still juiced to the gills, Henry T. hit a RBI single that allowed Jack to come home to roost.

With the bases still loaded, Henry S. stepped into the batter’s box and crushed a woolly mammoth four run grand slam blast that cleared the bases.

Nico (38) delivers a leadoff single during TP’s rally bid in the second inning.

TP threatened in bottom of the second after Nico (38) and Jack (1) stroked respective singles. However, the TP rally bid fizzled out.

Annette added three more runs to their total in the top of the third as they widened their lead to 17-0. After a leadoff triple by Evan, Carson stroked a clutch two out single to bring him home.

Carson (16) delivers a two out RBI single during Annette’s three run spurt in the third inning. In four at bats, Carson went 4 for 4 [triple, double, two singles] to spark the Athletics with three runs scored and three RBI’s versus TP.

Following a double by Jack that put two otters on the lake, Feidhlim delivered a RBI single to plate Carson. With two aboard, Jake followed with a RBI hit that brought Jack homeward.

As Annette second baseman Turner (3) performs a pirouette to catch the throw, TP baserunner Logan (5) slides safely into second base in the bottom of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, Toronto Playgrounds made another valiant attempt to rally after respective singles from Logan (5) and Eamon (13) that put two ducklings on the pond. However, TP’s efforts to break the goose egg was thwarted by a pair of strikeouts and a solid play by the Annette defence.

NOWHERE MAN > With two outs, the Annette defence encircle TP baserunner Logan (5) in its lair to thwart his bid to come home in the bottom of the third inning.

The A’s added five insurance runs in the top half of the fourth to pump their lead to 22-0. After a leadoff single by Turner and a double by Henry S. that put two on board, Evan stroked a one out RBI single to bring Turner home.

With two aboard, Sam delivered a RBI double that allowed Henry S. to come homeward. Lucas followed with a RBI single to plate Evan.

Subsequently, with one out and two runners on base, Jack hit a RBI single to bring Sam home. Feidhlim followed with a RBI hit that allowed Lucas to motor home with a run.

The curtain came down on the proceeding after TP went down quietly in order in the bottom of the fourth frame.
