Beneath a gentle blanket of warm and tranquil summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects defeated the Halton Hills Eagles 17-1 in four innings of 2019 Lloyd McConnie Memorial Rookie Ball Tournament round robin game action this morning at Etobicoke Valley Park Diamond 1.

With the victory, TP won its first round robin tournament game at the weekend tourney.

Michael (31) was named TP’s MVP in their third round robin game (versus the Eagles) for his great defensive play in the second inning.

Toronto Playgrounds journey at the tourney began on Saturday morning when they fell to the Annette A’s 19-4 in a six inning round robin game at Diamond 1.

Zach (8) was named TP’s MVP in their opening round robin tourney game for his Gold Glove defensive prowess against the Athletics. Zach kept his cool and composure as he snagged a pair of scorching red hot tamale line drives in the shoestrings of his mitt. One defensive gem was made when he was fielding the pitcher position; the other catch was made while he manned second base.

In their second round robin game played yesterday afternoon, the Muskoka Hornets stung TP 22-0 in a four inning proceeding at Diamond 3.

Caz (7) was named TP’s MVP in their second round robin affair. Caz delivered a base hit against the Hornets and also made a rocket throw across the diamond from third base to first to ting up a 5-3 putout.

After losing their first two round robin games on Saturday, TP rebounded with aplomb early this morning when they defeated Halton Hills to pick up their first victory at the tourney.

TP finished the Lloyd McConnie with a 1-2 record. As such, TP did not qualify for the tournament’s playoff elimination rounds.

Despite falling short of their ultimate goal, the entire Toronto Playgrounds team nevertheless had a fun filled experience and time under the sun this weekend at Etobicoke Valley Park.

And a special kudos goes out to Roy T. and Theo E. for being incredible call ups to the TP Rookie Ball Select Team this weekend. With the team short staffed in the dugout, their presence made all the difference at the Lloyd McConnie tourney.

WAY TO GO, TP!
