TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS JOURNEY AT THE TOURNEY COMES TO AN END AS THEY GO DOWN SWINGING AGAINST THE CARDINALS AT CONNORVALE PARK

The 2019 Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects.

Beneath a warm ceiling of pristine summer skies, the Royal York White defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects 15-2 in four innings of round robin playoff action this afternoon at the 2019 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Championship Tournament.

With their second loss, TP was officially eliminated from further play under the double knockout rules of the tournament.

Toronto Playgrounds commenced its EBA playoff tournament with a nail biting 12-11 four inning round robin game victory this morning over the Weston Wolverines.

The TP Minor Peewees journey at the tourney began in a surreal Twilight Zone fashion on Friday night when play in their opening contest versus the Wolverines was suspended in the top half of the third inning due to a power outage at Connonvale Park that plunged the diamond into darkness. As a result, tournament organizers were forced to reschedule the resumption of game to 8 a.m. this morning, with Weston ahead 8-6 on the scoreboard when play was suspended.

After a restful night’s sleep of counting sheep, a reivigorated TP squad hit the field and prevailed over the Wolverines in a thriller.

In their next round robin playoff proceeding, the Royal York Girls took no prisoners as they defeated TP 23-1 in a four inning affair early this afternoon at Connorvale Park to hand them their first loss at the tourney.

In a spirited do or die contest to stay alive at the tourney, TP fell to Royal York White late this afternoon.

Despite finishing with a 2-11-1 EBA Select regular season record in 2019, the TP Minor Peewee Selects had a fun filled and rewarding season on the diamond. For the players and coaches, this was a crucial developmental year which will inevitably lead to bigger and better things in the 2020 season.

And the TP Minor Peewees active participation in several weekend tournaments in Hamilton, Richmond Hill and Kitchener during the course of the 2019 season not only gave the players additional opportunities to gain more playing experience, but also allowed parents and coaches to bond together, creating better team chemistry for one and all.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Major Mosquito Select Head Coach Jenny Foster and Assistant Coaches Kathleen Gallagher, Paul Keable and Sasha Renton for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Minor Peewee Selects through the highs and lows of the 2019 season.

The Committee also wishes to commend all the Minor Peewee Select players, coaches, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2019 season.

WAY TO GO, TP!
