TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS JOURNEY AT THE TOURNEY COMES TO AN END AS THEY GO DOWN SWINGING AGAINST THE RIVERDOGS AT CONNORVALE PARK

The 2019 Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Select Team.

Beneath a duvet of warm summer skies at Connorvale Park, the York Riverdogs defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 15-7 in a five inning semi-final elimination game this afternoon at the 2019 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Championship Tournament.

TP began its journey at the tourney on Friday night with an 8-1 four inning round robin playoff game loss to the top ranked Royal York Girls at Westway Park.

Because of the tournament’s double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from further playoff play after two losses, Toronto Playgrounds was placed in a do or die situation to stay alive at the tourney.

In a must win game, TP rebounded with an authoritative four inning 17-3 victory over the Weston Wolverines on Saturday morning to capture their first round robin playoff game victory and continue their end of season playoff dreams.

With the wind in their sails, TP prevailed 10-7 over the Bloordale Bombers in a 3 ½ inning affair yesterday afternoon at Millwood Park to earn its second round robin game victory.

After bouncing back to win two straight games, TP (2-1) earned a bye into the semi-final elimination round of the tourney against York.

Despite falling a tad short of reaching the championship round at the EBA playoffs, the TP Major Peewee Selects nevertheless had a fun filled and rewarding season of baseball during the 2019 EBA Select campaign.

In addition, the entire TP Major Peewee Select Team Family had a great time participating at the West Mountain Tournament and the Niagara Falls Tourney.

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Major Peewee Select Head Coach Rebecca Wells-Jopling and Assistant Coaches Brian Cardoso and Jeff Kolyn for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Major Peewee Selects into the EBA Peewee Select Championship Tournament Semi-Final Game, and through the highs and lows of the 2019 season.

The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major Peewee Select players, coaches, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2019 season.

WAY TO GO, TP!
