The 2010 TP Tournament begins this evening with the first four of 47 scheduled games that will be played within the next ten days (weather permitting...of course).

• ALL games WILL start at the scheduled time, regardless of how many players are there. Defensive teams will have to field with available players.
• Please arrive at least one half hour before game time to warm up and to allow coaches to make lineups.  
• Full uniforms (houese league cap, house league jersey and house league pants) are to be worn.
• If games are cancelled due to weather, the tournament will run longer than indicated on the schedule.

MOSQUITO DIVISION:  5:45 p.m.   Cubs @ Dodgers  (Diamond # 3)

PEEWEE DIVISION:  7:45 p.m.   Lizzies @ Jays  (Diamond # 2)

BANTAM DIVISION:  6:00 p.m.   A's @ Expos  (Diamond # 1)

MIDGET DIVISION:  8:00 p.m.   Homesteads @ Lizzies  (Diamond # 1)

On days of uncertain weather, please remember to check the TP Weather Hotline at (416) 392-1914 (Press '4') to see if your game will proceed as scheduled or be postponed.  Please note that if some tournament games scheduled on a specific day are rained out, the schedule will continue as printed and the rained out games will be added into the schedule later in the tournament.

On the weekend, baseball games will start at the crack of dawn and continue non stop on three diamonds at Christie Pits until dusk. It's a fantastic way to wrap up the baseball season for players, parents and coaches in our Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam and Midget Divisions.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association will field AA or A "Rep" teams in the Toronto Baseball Association at most age levels in 2011.

Most teams will be holding fall workouts and tryouts starting on the weekend of September 18-19.   Please contact the coach of the appropriate age division for team-specific information.

Pierce (13) of the Dodgers pitched a scoreless third inning versus the Pirates.

With the TP Tournament starting in only five days, rain put a damper on the final day of regular season play in the Mosquito Division.

A rainstorm that lasted ten minutes at Christie Pits forced the cancellation of two Mosquito Division games. The downpour had deposited deep pools of water on both Diamonds # 2 and 3 and had rendered the diamonds unsafe to play on.

Despite a ten minute rainstorm at Bickford South, the Dodgers and Pirates were able to resume play after the downpour. In the end, the Dodgers defeated the Pirates 9-6 in three and a half innings of play.

The game was a seesaw affair after two innings. With the score tied 5-5, Pierce (13) of the Dodgers took charge and pitched a scoreless third inning against the Bucs. His pitching effort inspired his Dodgers teammates to score four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-5 lead. It was a lead they would not relinquish as Jayden (8) of the Dodgers closed the door on any comeback by striking out three Pirates to seal the victory.

In a possible harbinger of things to come in the upcoming TP Tournament, the A's and Expos finished tied 9-9 after five innings of play at Dominico Field at Christie Pits as both squads closed out their regular season in preparation for the round robin games ahead.

It was a fitting result for two teams that played hard both offensively and defensively in a game that had numerous lead changes. 

The game ended on a thrilling note. With two outs and the score knotted at 9-9 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the A's had the winning run on third base.  Enzo (6) of the Expos uncorked a wild pitch that went to the backstop. It was at that moment that Oliver (14) of the A's made a break for home from third base. However, Oliver (the Expos catcher) retrieved the ball and threw a strike to Enzo at home plate who applied the tag on the runner in a bang bang play. The play was so close that it took a moment before Home Plate Umpire Peter Bennett ruled that the A's runner was out.

Kudos to Sam (1) of the A's who pitched a strong first inning (1.0 Inning Pitched, 1 Strikeout, 1 Run Allowed); Oliver (14) of the A's who pitched a stellar second inning (1.0 IP, 0 K, 1 RA); Enzo (6) of the Expos who pitched two solid innings (2.0 IP, 0 K, 1 RA); and Dennis (10) of the A's who pitched a super fifth inning (1.0 IP, 1 K, o RA).
