The TP Baseball Committee has scheduled another House League Baseball Uniform Distribution session on Saturday, May 19 at the Alex Duff Pool Building (779 Crawford Street -- located in the northwest sector of Christie Pits) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Players in the TEE BALL AND ROOKIE BALL divisions will receive a baseball cap and jersey.

Players in the MOSQUITO, PEEWEE, BANTAM and MIDGET divisions will receive a cap, jersey and pants. To speed the uniform distribution process in these divisions, we kindly ask players and parents to have an idea of what size pants you require before you arrive for pick up. Thank you.

Uniforms will be distributed based upon the players size requirements only. The TP Baseball Committee reserves the right to make the final judgment.

During our uniform distribution, all players and parents will be served as expeditiously as possible by our cadre of volunteers. Because of the sheer volume of uniforms we must distribute to players of varying sizes from our six divisions, we ask for your patience during this process.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee has released the 2012 regular season divisional schedules for the teams in our House League Baseball Program.

The 2012 Bantam Division Schedule is in the process of being finalized...we are trying to arrange as many weekday game nights as possible to replace the Saturday games. We're planning to confirm dates and have the schedules sent out late tomorrow or Saturday morning. However, next week's schedule is listed below in order to give advance notice of those dates and times.

Tuesday, May 22 - 6:00 to 8:00 pm - Christie Pits # 1 - A's at Lizzies

Wednesday, May 23 - 6:00 to 8:00 pm - Christie Pits # 1 - White Sox at Expos

(Practice) Saturday, May 26 - 10:30 am to 12:30 pm - Expos and A's

MIDGET (1994-1996)

The Midget Division Regular Season Schedule is still in the process of being finalized and will be released shortly.

In that lyrical vein, the TP Baseball Committee will begin the distribution of uniforms today to all the house league players in our six age classifications.

Here is the pertinent information that you need to know:

• The Uniform Distribution Days are Thursday, May 17 and Saturday, May 19
• Uniform Distribution will take place at the Alex Duff Swimming Pool Building (779 Crawford Street) which is located in the northwest quadrant of Christie Pits.
• The distribution times for Thursday (4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Players in the TEE BALL AND ROOKIE BALL divisions will receive a baseball cap and jersey.

Davey (16) of the Peewee Selects pitched a stellar two innings against Bloordale. (2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 W, 6 SO)

As a precursor to the Victoria Day fireworks, the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Select Team opened their EBA season in roman candle fashion by lighting up the scoreboard with a 17-2 victory over Bloordale in five innings of play at Christie Pits Diamond 2 this evening.

Peewee Select players leave the dugout to congratulate Davey (16) on his majestic two-run home run to DEEP centrefield. His shot cleared the centre field fence on Diamond 1.

The Peewee Selects were firing on all cylinders defensively and offensively as every member of the team made a contribution to the win. Four TP pitchers combined to strikeout ten Bloordale batters, while walking only four. Meanwhile, the Peewee Select batters collected nine walks and eleven hits.

During the first two innings, Davey (16) set the tone of the game for the Peewee Selects as he struck out six Bloordale batters, allowed no hits or runs, while walking only two. In fact, he mowed down the first four batters that he faced.

While the defense held the Bloordale offense in check, Toronto Playgrounds made the most of their offensive opportunities early in the game. With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, the Peewee Selects used a disciplined approach at the plate to earn five consecutive walks to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, TP exploded for seven runs to take a 9-0 lead. David (12), Ben (4) and Keegan (17) delivered clutch RBI singles. Leading 7-0, the offensive fireworks was capped off by a majestic two run home run by Davey (16) to deep centre field. His homer was so powerful that it went over the centre field fence on Diamond 1 (a.k.a. Dominico Field). In jubilation, the entire Peewee Select team left the dugout to congratulate him.

TP kept their opponent off the scoreboard for four consecutive innings. In the top of the fifth, Bloordale finally broke the goose egg and scored two runs to trail 9-2. However, the Peewee Selects put the pedal to metal and scored eight more runs in their half of the fifth to seal the deal. The offensive juggernaut was highlighted by an inside the park home run to deep centre field hit by Sam (3). 

The Peewee Selects (1-0) play their next game on Wednesday, May 23 against York at Smythe Park.

Due to an unforeseen production delay with our uniform supplier, the TP Baseball Committee has been forced to cancel the uniform distribution scheduled for Wednesday, May 16.

The distribution of uniforms will still take place as scheduled on Thursday, May 17 at the Alex Duff Pool Building (779 Crawford Street) from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Committee is in the process of scheduling another date for uniform distribution on Saturday, May 19 at the same facility from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will confirm the viability of this alternative date by tomorrow evening.

The TP Baseball Committee sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from this unforeseen event with our uniform supplier. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Brian (25) pitched a scoreless fourth inning against Weston to preserve the tie for TP.

In a four inning thriller at Pelmo Park this evening, the Toronto Playgounds Mosquito Selects rallied for five unanswered runs in the top of the fourth inning and held Weston scoreless in the bottom half to preserve a 9-9 draw in their season opener in the EBA Select Loop.

Although they trailed 9-4 after three innings of play, the Mosquito Selects refused to raise the white flag of surrender against a tough opponent on the road. Keying the dramatic rally in the fourth was a clutch two RBI double by Jeremy (11) of the Mosquito Selects. TP also used a combination of speed and opportunism to take advantage of some Weston defensive miscues to score the necessary runs to tie the game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brian (25) of the Mosquito Selects cooly pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the tie. In a postgame media scrum, Mosquito Select Head Coach Mike Pett (44) named Brian the player of the game for his steely ability to close out the game against Weston.

After Jack (27) and Adam (18) delivered RBI singles in the top of the first inning to give TP an early 2-0 lead, Weston's offence scored five runs in the bottom half to jump out to a 5-2 lead.

With Weston scoring another run in the second to increase their lead to 6-2, the Mosquito Selects punched across two runs in the top of the third to trail by two. However, Weston scored three runs in the bottom of the third to  increase thier lead to 9-4.

The Mosquito Selects (0-0-1) next game will be their home opener. TP will host Bloordale at Diamond 3 on Sunday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The TP Baseball Committee has issued an updated Spring Training Schedule for its House League Divisions.

2012 TP House League Baseball Spring Training Schedule (May 12-17)

The TP Baseball Committee has scheduled a Rookie Ball House League Batting Practice Session on Saturday, May 12 at Christie Pits Diamond # 3.

Each of our six Rookie Ball house league teams will have a 45 minute hitting session with the pitching machine. Players from each team will get an at-bat of 5 or 6 pitches. If time permits, players will get to go up a second time.

Here is the schedule:

• 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. > PANTHERS
  
• 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. > BOBCATS
  
• 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. > LIONS
  
• 11:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon > CHEETAHS
  
• 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. > JAGUARS
  
• 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. > TIGERS`

With our House League Teams in six divisions immersed in spring training practice sessions for the 2012 season, the TP Baseball Committee has issued a release that details some important dates and information to remember as we approach Opening Day on May 22.

UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION

The TP Baseball Committee has scheduled the week of May 14-18 for uniform distribution to all the players in our six respective house league divisions. Information concerning the dates, times and location for the uniform distribution will be released once they are finalized. A communique will be issued via email, the website and Twitter. Please note that the week mentioned for distribution is contingent upon our supplier's ability to deliver the uniforms to us.

REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE

The regular season schedules for all six of our age divisions is the process of being finalized. The TP Baseball Committee will release the season schedules during the week of May 14-18. The regular season schedules will be issued via email and the website. A Twitter tweet will also be sent alerting parents and players when the schedules become available.

OPENING DAY

The 2012 TP House League Baseball Regular Season begins on Tuesday, May 22. However, with six different age categories, each division will have its own unique Opening Day to kick start the season. Here are the Opening Day dates for each division:

• TEE BALL (2005-2008) : Tuesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 24
• ROOKIE BALL (2003-2004) : Wednesday, May 23
• MOSQUITO (2001-2002) : Thursday, May 24
• PEEWEE (1999-2000) : Monday, May 28
• BANTAM (1997-1998) : To Be Determined
• MIDGET (1994-1996) : To Be Determined
