SUNDAY'S BANTAM SELECT TEAM INDOOR TRYOUT SESSION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE MARY McCORMICK RC

The TP Baseball Committee has announced that the sixth Bantam Select Team indoor tryout & workout will take place on Sunday, April 15 at the Mary McCormick Recreation Centre (66 Sheridan Avenue - one block west of Dufferin and three blocks south of Dundas Street West) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Bantam Select Team is for players who were born in 1997 and 1998.

Players and Parents interested in our Select Team tryout are advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time of their tryout session so that we can make sure that everyone is properly registered in out house league program with all pertinent information necessary. Only players who are registered for the 2012 Toronto Playgrounds House League season will be able to participate in the sessions.

It’s Time To Make A Pitch For A Great Season Of House League Baseball

WITH ONLY 40 DAYS TO GO BEFORE OPENING DAY AND WITH ROSTER SPOTS FILLING UP IN OUR SIX AGE DIVISIONS, IT'S TIME TO SIGN UP FOR THE 2012 SEASON BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

Like a rite of passage, spring is in the air and another glorious season of Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball is on the horizon.

It's hard to believe, but there are only 40 days remaining before another great summer of baseball begins on May 22 down at Christie Pits and Bickford Park.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee is accepting registrations for the 2012 TP House League Baseball Season.

Currently, we have openings in all six of our age classifications. However, the committee strongly encourages parents and players to register early to guarantee a spot in our popular baseball program for this year.

Here are the 2012 registration fees per player for each age category:

• TEE BALL (2005-2008) : $95.00
• ROOKIE BALL (2003-2004) : $95.00
• MOSQUITO (2001-2002) : $120.00
• PEEWEE (1999-2000) : $120.00
• BANTAM (1997-1998) : $120.00
• MIDGET (1994-1996) : $120.00

Parents and Players are advised that the registration fee includes a trophy, photos and a uniform.

Also, please note that there are additional fees required for any player interested in participating on our TP Select Teams. (Please view the 'Select' Page located on our sidebar for more details.)

INDOOR WORKOUT SESSIONS CONTINUE FOR THE SELECT TEAMS IN OUR MOSQUITO, PEEWEE & ROOKIE BALL CLASSIFICATIONS AT THE BICKFORD CENTRE

The TP Baseball Committee has announced that the indoor tryouts & workous for our respective Select Teams in the Mosquito, Peewee and Rookie Ball classifications will continue this week (April 9-14) at the Bickford Centre.

Parents and Players are advised that ALL OF THESE TRYOUT & WORKOUT SESSIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE GYM AT THE BICKFORD CENTRE (777 Bloor St. West), and NOT at the Bob Abate CRC. The Bickford Gym can be accessed through the north doors of the Breezeway (the area below the main building frequented by skateboarders) or through the doors off the parking lot behind Bob Abate. Signs will be up to help direct people to the gym.

The Select tryout & workout schedule for the next two weeks is as follows:

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11

Mosquito Select (2001-2002): 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Peewee Select (1999-2000): 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

SATURDAY, APRIL 14*

Rookie Ball Select (2003-2005): 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.**

*Please note that, while some Rookie Ball parents and players may have been told that there would be no Select tryout on Saturday, April 14, there will indeed be a session. We apologize for any confusion.

Our Select Coaches will obviously have to choose teams based upon players that have been at most of the tryouts. If players haven't been out to many sessions, they can't expect to be on the team.

FIFTH BANTAM TRYOUT & WORKOUT SESSION WILL BE HELD AT THE BICKFORD CENTRE ON SATURDAY

The TP Baseball Committee has scheduled a Select Tryout for our Bantam Select Team on Saturday, April 7 at the Bickford Centre from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO BANTAM SELECT TRYOUT SCHEDULED FOR THE MARY McCORMICK RECREATION CENTRE FOR THIS UPCOMING SUNDAY, AS IT IS A STATUTORY HOLIDAY (EASTER SUNDAY).

Spring Training On The Horizon For Our House League Baseball Divisions

WITH 50 DAYS TO GO TO OPENING DAY, THE TP BASEBALL COMMITTEE HAS RELEASED DETAILS ABOUT THE UPCOMING PLAYER EVALUATIONS & SPRING TRAINING FOR THE 2012 HOUSE LEAGUE SEASON

With opening day only 50 days away, the TP Baseball Committee has issued an update regarding our preparations for the upcoming 2012 Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball season.

Our regular season begins the week of Victoria Day, which this year is Monday, May 21. We do not play on Victoria Day itself, so Tuesday, May 22 will be our Opening Day.

For our Tee Ball Division, the pre-season practices will begin the week of Monday, May 7. You will be contacted the week of Monday, April 30 with the name of your child's team and coach, and the date and time of your first practice. All practices and games will take place at the "Tee Ball Diamond", which is the north diamond in Bickford Park which is located between Bloor St., Harbord St., Grace St., and Montrose Ave. We will be scheduling two pre-season practices for each tee ball team. Please note that during the pre-season, and only during the pre-season, practices will be scheduled each night of the week so that we can get each coach two practice times.

For our Rookie Ball, Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget divisions, pre-season practices will also begin the week of Monday, May 7. We will be holding evaluation sessions for players in all of these divisions prior to making the teams. The evaluation sessions provide us with an opportunity to see all the players (or as many as possible) so that we can make our houseleague teams as balanced as possible. We will still move players early in the season if we have balance issues, but by holding the evaluations we can hopefully keep these moves to a minimum.

The evaluation sessions for the Rookie Ball, Mosquito, and Peewee players will take place during the weekend of April 28-29. We are planning on holding sessions on both Saturday and Sunday (players only attend one session) so that we will have more chance of seeing all the players. We will be informing you of the times and locations of the evaluation sessions by Monday, April 16. You will then be contacted later in the week of Monday, April 30 with the name of your child's team and coach, and the date and time of your first practice. We will be scheduling two pre-season practices for each team. Please note that during the pre-season, and only during the pre-season, practices will be scheduled each night of the week so that we can get each coach two practice times.

We are planning to hold the evaluation sessions for the Bantam and Midget players during the weekend of May 5-6. We are planning on holding sessions on both Saturday and Sunday (players only attend one session) so that we will have more chance of seeing all the players. We will be informing you of the times and locations of the evaluation sessions by Monday, April 23. Players will then be contacted early in the week of Monday, May 7 with the name of their team and coach, and the date and time of their first practice.

Finally, if you indicated on your child's registration form that you're interested in volunteering as a coach, the TP Baseball Committee would like to thank you very much. We couldn't have the wonderful league that we do without the commitment of and support from our volunteer coaches. We will be contacting interested coaches by the middle of next week (April 12 or 13) with a schedule for some meetings and (hopefully) mock practice sessions in the gym. I'd like to hold three or four sessions over the last half of April (we're not expecting you to attend all of them) in order to answer as many of your questions and make you as comfortable in your coaching role as possible. This will definitely help get us as ready as possible for the beginning of May!

We hope this information gives parents and players a clear understanding of what you can expect to happen between now and Victoria Day as we prepare for the 2012 season. Once the Regular Season Schedules are finalized, they will be made available during the pre-season practice weeks.

WITH THE CITY OF TORONTO AND PART TIME RECREATION WORKERS OF CUPE LOCAL 79 HAVING AGREED TO A TENTATIVE DEAL, A FOURTH BANTAM SESSION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE MARY McCORMICK RECREATION CENTRE

With the City of Toronto and the part time recreation workers of CUPE 79 having reached a tentative deal, the TP Baseball Committee has confirmed that a fourth Bantam Select Team indoor tryout & workout will take place on Sunday, April 1 at the Mary McCormick Recreation Centre (66 Sheridan Avenue - one block west of Dufferin and three blocks south of Dundas Street West) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Bantam Select Team is for players who were born in 1997 and 1998.

The indoor tryout and workout will offer an opportunity for parents and players to gauge and indicate their interest in the Select program. The sessions will allow players to demonstrate their respective throwing, catching, batting skills and baseball acumen to the coaches for evaluation.

Players and Parents interested in our Select Team tryout are advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time of their tryout session so that we can make sure that everyone is properly registered in out house league program with all pertinent information necessary. Only players who are registered for the 2012 Toronto Playgrounds House League season will be able to participate in the sessions.

SELECT > Mosquito & Peewee Select Tryouts Cancelled

WEDNESDAY EVENING TRYOUT SESSIONS SCUTTLED BECAUSE OF FAILURE OF THE TDSB TO ISSUE A PERMIT FOR USE OF THE BICKFORD CENTRE GYM

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee has cancelled tonight's (Wednesday, March 28) Select Tryouts involving our respective Mosquito and Peewee teams.

The sessions were scuttled due to the failure of the TDSB to issue us a permit for the use of the gym at the Bickford Centre.

The Committee is in the process of trying to reschedule the Mosquito and Peewee tryouts to Saturday, March 31. Parents and Players are advised to check the website and Twitter for updates concerning this attempt to reschedule these sessions.

The TP Baseball Committee sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience concerning this last minute cancellation. We thank you for your understanding.
