Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball 2022 Division Schedules

Below you will find the information for each age division in terms of the days/times/locations for games and practices. In the Tee Ball and Rookie Ball divisions there is a choice of game nights so please read the information carefully before registering. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

The pre-season and season dates listed in the schedule are the dates we are planning to operate. When we can actually start will depend upon when the City of Toronto issues permits for the diamonds, which will in turn depend upon the provincial health restrictions in place.

Also, in 2020 Baseball Ontario put in place a requirement that a 30-minute break take place between each baseball “event” as one part of the Return to Play Protocols related to the COVID-19 situation. If that requirement is still in place when our outdoor season begins, start times for some games/practices will be earlier (if it’s the first “event” of the day) and the start times for some games/practices will be later (if it’s a second “event” after the break) than would be the case for a “regular” season (without the need for the 30-minute break). The times that will be in effect if we have a “regular” season are listed first, with the possible revised times that will be in effect if we need to have the break listed in brackets.

Tee Ball (2015-2018)

For the 2022 season, we will again be offering two divisions of Tee Ball – Junior Tee Ball is intended for players born in 2017 and 2018, and Senior Tee Ball is intended for players born in 2015 and 2016. For the 2022 season, we are offering both Junior and Senior Tee Ball divisions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

  • Junior Tee Ball games will start at 5:30 pm (5:15 pm). Senior Tee Ball games will start at 6:30 pm (6:45 pm).
  • There won’t be scheduled team practices once the regular season starts…short warm-up practices will be incorporated into the beginning of each game. There will be two or three scheduled team practices during the pre-season schedule.
  • All of the pre-season practices and regular season games will take place at the Eggleton Park Tee Ball diamonds, which are located just south of Harbord Street between Grace Street and Montrose Avenue (beside the Montrose Public School schoolyard).
  • The pre-season will run from early May to Thursday, May 19th. The Tee Ball division regular season will commence the week of May 23rd. The season will conclude with a Tee Ball Celebration Day for each team in late August/early September (the precise format/date(s) will be confirmed by the end of May).

Rookie Ball (2013 and 2014)

For the 2022 season we will again be offering two divisions of Rookie Ball – Junior Rookie Ball is intended for players born in 2014 and Senior Rookie Ball is intended for players born in 2013. For the 2022 season, we are offering two choices of game day for both the Junior and Senior Rookie Ball divisions. Players will register for one of the following four divisions.

•       The Junior Rookie Ball Thursday division will play every Thursday and practice every second Tuesday. Games will be every Thursday at 5:45 pm (5:15 pm) at either the Bickford South diamond or Christie Pits diamond 3 (each team will play games at each diamond and the regular season schedule will list where the game is each week). Tuesday practices will take place at Christie Pits diamond 3 at 5:15 pm (5:00 pm) for one hour.

•       The Senior Rookie Ball Monday division will play every Monday and practice every second Wednesday. Games will be played each Monday at either 5:45 pm (5:15 pm) or 7:00 pm at the Bickford South diamond (each team will play some games at each time).  •       There will be evaluation sessions arranged for players registered in all rookie ball divisions. The purpose of these sessions is to give us as good a measure as possible of the skill level of our players, so that we can make our house league teams as fair and balanced as possible. These sessions will take place sometime in late April. Parents will receive information in mid-April as to the dates, times, and location of these sessions.

•       The pre-season will run from early May to Thursday, May 19th. The Rookie Ball divisions regular season will commence the week of May 23rd. The Rookie Ball season will wrap up with the Rookie Ball Celebration Day in late August/early September (the precise format/date(s) will be confirmed by the end of May).•       There will be two or three scheduled team practices during the pre-season. We will also be running weekend clinics in May and June so the Rookie Ball players can further develop their skills.

Mosquito (2011 and 2012)

For the 2022 season the Mosquito division is intended for players born in 2011 and 2012. In 2022 the Mosquito division will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. So, Mondays and Wednesdays are the days each week that Mosquito players will need to commit to in order to participate in house league. What will be somewhat different from past seasons is that, while there will be Mosquito house league every Monday and also every Wednesday, all teams will play some games on Mondays and some games on Wednesdays (alternating each week). Practices will always be on Mondays. All teams will have a game every week and a practice every second week. The teams in the Mosquito division will be divided into two groups, and each team will play all of the other teams in their group (but not teams in the other group) during the regular season. Teams from the two groups will play each other during the End-of-Season House League tournament in September (“September Madness”).

So, on the weeks that a team has a practice, their practice will be on Monday and their game will be on Wednesday. On the weeks when that team doesn’t have a practice, their game will be on Monday.

  • Games and practices in the Mosquito division will take place at a number of diamonds in the community: Christie Pits diamonds 2 and 3, the Dovercourt diamond, and the Bickford South diamond. Each team will play and practice at all of these diamonds during the season. The start times for the games in the mosquito division will range from 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm (7:45 pm), with each team playing at all of those times during the season. There is only one game each week starting at 5:15 pm, so over the course of the entire season no team will have that start time more than three times. The start times for the practices in the mosquito division will range from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm (6:45 pm), with each team practicing at all of those times during the season. Games will run from 1.5 hours to 1.75 hours, and practices will run for 1.5 hours (1.25 hours if the 30-minute break is required).
  • During the 2022 season we are planning for the Mosquito house league teams to have scheduled access to the inflatable batting cages which the league has purchased. This access will be incorporated into their regular practice schedule, as well as some additional times that may be scheduled on weekends.
  • There will be evaluation sessions arranged for players registered in the Mosquito division.
There will be two or three scheduled team practices during the pre-season schedule. We will also be running weekend clinics in May and June so the Mosquito players can further develop their skills. The Mosquito division regular season will commence the week of May 23rd and will wrap up in mid-September at the conclusion of our end of season “September Madness” house league tournament.

Peewee (2009 and 2010)

Each team will play and practice at all of these diamonds during the season. The start times for the games and practices in the peewee division will range from 6:00 pm (5:45 pm) to 8:15 pm (8:45 pm), with each team playing/practicing at each of these times during the season. Bantam (2007 and 2008) and Varsity (2004/2005/2006)

For the 2022 season, the Bantam division is intended for players born in 2007 and 2008, and the Varsity division is intended for players born in 2004, 2005, and 2006. There will be one Bantam division and one Varsity division, but since there is only one available diamond with a mound there will be Bantam and Varsity games played on more than one day each week. The day on which there will always be a Bantam game and a Varsity game scheduled is Tuesday. On some weeks, the second Bantam and Varsity games will be played on Wednesday, and on other weeks the second Bantam and Varsity games will be played on Saturday afternoon.

  • On Tuesdays and on Wednesdays the Bantam game will start at 6:00 pm and the Varsity game will start at 8:00 pm (8:15 pm). On Saturdays the games will be played in the afternoon. All Bantam and Varsity games will be played at Christie Pits diamond 1.  If there are four teams in each division, which is our expectation, each team will play once each week. If there are three teams in a division then one team will play twice each week.
  • We will be announcing the practice times and days for the bantam and varsity house league divisions by the end of April. Some practices will be at Christie Pits diamond 1, and some will be at other diamonds.
