On a serene evening under the lights at Christie Pits Diamond 2, the Cubs edged the Lizzies 10-9 in a four inning Mosquito Division thriller.

The Cubbies scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to break a 9-9 deadlock.

Here are the highlights:

  • The Cubs received strong pitching efforts from Alden (9) in the first with three strikeouts; Daniel (13) in the second with 3 K’s; Aaron (10) [a Rookie Ball call-up from the Jaguars] in the third; and Michael (11) in the fourth with three strikeouts.
  • In the third inning, Flynn (4) made a sizzling catch on line drive between third and short to record the third out and diffuse a Lizzies offensive rally.
  • Alden of the Cubs was tagged out a great play by Lizzies catcher when he was trying to steal home in third.
  • The Lizzies comeback was sparked by big hitting night from Jasper DB (13) who had three hits (two doubles) and three RBI’s; Luke (5) with two hits and 2 RBI’s); and Devin (6).
  • The Lizzies scored a key run in the second on a thrilling double steal by Devin and Jasper R (4).
  • Lizzies pitcher Xavier (8) threw an almost perfect second inning by facing only four batters and recording three outs.
  • Once again, the Lizzies had solid outings by two of the Mosquito Division’s top female pitchers — Jasper R (4) and Fatima (14)
  • Luke (5) ran the base path like a demon, including sliding into first.
  • Leif’s (9) strong defensive play shut down a Cubs’ rally.
